Replace your running trainers?

Advice sought from those regular runners on how frequently you change your running gear. I have struggled since December with calf issues. First it was right one and one now my left calf has gone. Now full on pull.. but constantly sore so a strain I guess.

I'm thinking it could be the trainers causing it bit they are only 6 months old.

I’ve been running in the same pair since last Feb but haven’t had any niggles to speak of so could it be another issue you are having? To be fair the sole is worn down on mine but Minnie bought me a new pair for my birthday so they’ll do for another year haha

Think the advice is though to change them every few months or so if you are running regularly but obviously that’s not practical if you are skint

Trainers are like car tyres they have mileage by which they will wear out, so it depends how far you run and how often.

If you are feeling the support of the trainer has gone too far to the soft side, or if the tread on the bottom is thin/slick then time to change them up.

Places like runners need are good to advise on trainers that will be suitable for your running style/distance etc and when you should look at changing

The place where I got my running shoes told me to replace them every year, but how much you run must come into it somewhere.

According to asics its every 450-500 miles.

I haven't run in ages but have been wearing the same pair of trainers for a good few years now and can tell they need replacing. My feet are so sore after my 8 mile walk yesterday

Good job it's payday on Friday

couple, us we him her.

Depends on your milage.

Your weight.

The surface you run on.

I used to replace mine anything from after 3months to a year.

I used a different pair for road running to off road.

And had a pair for racing but then different pairs for racing depending on the distance of the race.

I was running around 50+ miles a week at point and as I am a bit of a lump went through trainer's rapidly.

So the answer to your question is really how do they feel?

I could tell almost immediately when they needed replacing just by how they feel.

If calf's are an issue are you stretching enough before and after?

Have you altered running style at all,ie gone from heal to toe strike.

Are you doing any core work and work on your glutes and hamstrings?

This can cause calf issues if they are weak or tight.

Or maybe have you introduced extra miles or hills into your program?
