I’ve seen an awful lot of pics lately where you gym bod guys seem to have a weird curvature of your lower spine.

Shoulders and hips pushed forwards.

It’s a bit like an S shape, surely that’s not good for your back??

It's actually healthier if you maintain a slight arch while bench pressing because your lower back is naturally curved. ...

A strategy commonly seen in powerlifting, arching the back beyond its natural curve brings the chest up higher, reducing your range of motion and allowing you to lift heavier.

So hence a naturally arched look in those gym goers. Usually you see pregnant women with a more naturally curved lower back for support.

I'm far from gym bod too but this is strange... I do know that guys who don't do proper weight training can end up with unusual body shapes as a result

I get the dedication of body building, show it off, but make sure there's other views too

I'm no Dr but I do think you're meant to have a s shaped spine.

Gonna go check some pics out for research purposes though

I know the stance you mean but it’s not that...

I think it may be more of a C shape... so pushing against your natural lower back arch?!?

Does that make more sense?

Ohhhh I think you’ve hit it!

Looking at the pics it would I suppose, show more of the abs defined!

Can’t be healthy though to walk around like that surely!!

It’s more a C shape, I have been corrected!

It’s to show off the abs.... you learn something new everyday in the grand world of Fab x

If its just in pictures then it's probably just a pose to look more toned . If you mean in person then it's not something I've noticed personally and I normally spend a fair amount of time in the gym.

The spine is curved but body shape overall should be more straight rather than curved.

Curve at the hips is a sign of poor body posture called anterior pelvic tilt or posterior pelvic tilt. Same goes with shoulders, they should be straight not hunched forward.

Really? Abdominal fat (as well as pregnancy) tends to cause swayback posture more than an overly straight posture. Especially if the glutes are weak as you tend to push your hips forward and lean your upper body back to compensate for the extra weight in the front.

I understool the question to mean the torso shape which correct is a slight s starting at the top of the spine to the bottom. Ive never seen hunched forward shoulders apart from posing for competition ect.

I think this is it... the person(s) I said pictures was posing to show off muscle!

I know nothing about gym bod and competing so had no idea until someone above pointed it out!

I was more concerned being from a healthcare background that people are purposefully making themselves the wrong shape just to look ‘fit’

Ahhh i get you i thought you actually meant the shape top heavy narrow waisted larger glutes, teach me for skim reading . Yeh its a standard 'show pose' like the gold people do

My ex used to do it in pictures. Instead of standing up straight he'd hunch forward and tense to make his pecs look bigger. I like you, think it looks a little odd.

To me it looks "try hard" and very unnatural

I'm not overly sure of the C shape you mention OP maybe C shape bent forward? This is highly likely to show tense abs and one of very few poses a man can strike to appear a little more toned than when relaxed. Any guys who have gone to the gym even though they may not admit it will have worked on poses in the mirror, it's the male equivalent of the female "teeth, tits and toes" pose that works so well for women. The mentioned C shape does look so awkward and not natural but us chaps do have a dissadvantage trying to strike sexy poses, it just doesn't work for most of us. Personally I find exhaling as much air as possible and twisting towards the camera gives a great illusion of defined abs and large chest and shoulders.
