Amazing, tearful and needed.

I cried all the way through and proud that my friends consider me to be their Jill

I’m not gay or anything but I seem to get turned on even watching the bit with the 3 guys I thought wow that looked fun. But I wouldn’t go that far. I have no issues with bi or gay guys at all but I wouldn’t go that far.

If that makes sense

I've not yet finished the series because I'm far too silly and end up really sad after an episode! It's fantastic though - the soundtrack, the storylines, the character development.

The start date they put on it was the date I started work after just leaving school. So I could follow it and could connect to times in my my life. It was an amazing series with great characters. It totally broke my heart. As a straight person I didn't know the struggle that was going on for the gay community. Until the powers that be finally admitted that there was a problem and put the aids warning on telly. (Sorry for going on)

I didn't think so. She was a product of her time. Was she supposed to be totally informed about gender identity in a society and time that weren't ?

People thought Gayness was an illness and shameful and something that people go through as a phase.

Everyone was hurt. Including the parents.

Probably ...... Tho I think she was out of order when she wanted him to herself and kept his friends away.

As a mum she may have thought that it was their lifestyle that made her boy ill.

We do what we do with what we know I guess.

A superb series and the first one I have sat down and watched properly for ages.

Loved the laughs, the sadness and it really did show the bigotry of the whole Aids scenario back then.

Absolutely loved it and what's better still most of it was filmed up here in the North West

Cried, laughed my way through the series, brought back all those 80’s memories especially seeing the AIDS advert for the first time.

This is a bit of a spoiler. Sorry if you haven't watched it but, let's face it, you shouldn't have clicked on this thread if you were worried about that.

The scene in which Ritchie explained to his mother that, although he knew that his lifestyle had essentially killed him, he wouldn't have changed a single moment because he had so much fun was immensely powerful.

This is what it's all about kids. Get out there*. Have fun. Don't regret a single moment.

Life's too short.

I was just chatting to a friend on WhatsApp I have such a clear memory of sitting round a table in a greasy spoon with half a dozen friends reading the news and trying to understand what it was. A “gay” illness that made no sense. Then it twigged. It was part of our lives for years before science stopped it being a death sentence. I hated that advert.

In the early 90s one of our dear friends got sick and died. We were in our 20s and shit just got real.

To anyone that has found this difficult to watch. Big hug.

A fucking awesome series.

I agree, the advert was awful.

I remember it being called the “gay plague” and having leaflets handed out at work from PHE basically saying you couldn’t catch it from a mug or sharing a desk but could from sharing fluids!
