A random conversation with my eldest child about handkerchief use... reminded me how I use to collect them as a child! Difterent colours, designs, carefully ironed and folded in a neat square and always carried one like a little lady
What random (or not) things you use to collect as a child?

"Beer Mats !! Had tons of them , I can't even remember what happened to them now sadly "
I don't have many things from my childhood either. Too much moving and my grandma was ruthless like that with getting rid of things;-) |

"Fancy paper. Went through my parents attic at one point trying to find it as I dont remember throwing it out.
Oooh. Did you find it? "
No. Reckon one of my parents chucked it at one point. Oh well... |

Stick insects until the school noticed their dwindling resources
I miss sticky, twiggy and their mates and the loss of my stick insect pet sale business
Dam that school for stopping me being the next Richard Branson |

That was such a craze , beermats, beer towels , ashtrays even optics ! Popular kids used to wear beer towels in back pockets of Levi’s 501 .... oh how cool |

Were you asked to return them? |

It was like chicken run where they'd had their brief taste of freedom only to have it taken away from them, they bred easily so I still kept a few.
I just took back a couple and said the rest had died |

Countdown comic
Penthouse magazine (US edition)
All kept flat, stored out of sunlight, and in immaculate condition.
Dinky and Corgi toys stored in the original boxes. Played with but no chips or scratches.
Unfortunately, when I started University, my parents gave the comics and magazines to a local jumble sale |( I think they lied about the Penthouse magazines which were probably burned or ended up in the general refuse).
Th toys went to my cousin who, literally, destroyed them crashing them into each other.
Quite a loss, not least in potential resale values now.

"I wanted to collect Snoopy stationary and badges but we didn't have money for frivolous things. I had one rubber that I kept new with Snoopy on.
I still like Snoopy items."
I know the craving.. but then whatever you had you also appreciated more as it was long awaited and hard earned. |

I had a carry along Post Office. My pride and joy. As a result I collected anything post officey like stamps, air mail stickers, writing sets, envelopes, those things you indent paper with, stamp and ink pads, blueys etc etc. Proper geek I was. |

"Rubbers (erasers) but the smelly shaped ones."
Me too... Although I liked all stationery. I always had nice ring binders and pencil cases and the bestest click pencils. Hated when classmates wanted to borrow my stuff. Normally they chewed the tops or wouldn't give it back. |

beano, dandy & buster comics and annuals for me... all I ever used to ask for at Xmas was a beano or dandy annual
I sold most of them as a teenager, including a decent amount of collectibles... gutted about that when I look back and I'm always tempted to start again! |

"Ribbons for my hair and stamps "
I had tones of hair clips and bobbles as I was obsessed with them being sleek and smooth. Now I embrace their messiness |

2000AD comic. Kept buying it to this day. I've now got an almost complete collection and very little loft space |

"I had a great selection of bogeys on my bogey wall. It used to have bumps from all the snot I would wipe on there.
I'm not lying. "
I'll admit, this one took me by surprise! |

It was a common past time. The art of bogey collecting was not limited to just one gender. That's the beauty of it, anyone could take part whether rich or poor, young or old. |

They're the sneaky ones who would wipe it underneath your desk, in between your mum's sofa cushions or your pillow as you slept...
In fact every nook and cranny. |

Rubbers.

Badges.
Stickers.
Stamps.
Seashells.

And a vast collection of hippos!
Not sure what that says about me! Lol. |
