I know it'll be a while yet but I had a wee anxiety moment the other day when Bojo mentioned lockdown easing.

The amount of work that goes into reopening is unreal.

My chest was pounding at the thought of getting moaned at because we've got no mayo and how "it's pathetic to have a restaurant that has no mayonnaise, how we should be ashamed of ourselves and they'd never had come here had they known"

It's gonna be a nightmare.

People don't take into consideration all the restaurants in the entire country are trying to restock to open on the same day and we're at the mercy of deliveries and suppliers. That the manufacturers of these items ain't manufacturing at the moment coz there's no point making stuff that could possibly go out of date before it's sold to the restaurants who don't know when they're opening.

I'm looking forward to going back in some ways but I'm dreading it too.

How about you?

I've worked all through it as a healthcare worker, but I totally get what you mean.some people are v ungrateful to us and you feel like nothing is ever good enough, despite them knowing we have so much more to do now, due to covid 19.

I don't know what the answer is ppi wish people had more empathy for others and appreciated that its been a really rough time for everyone x

I'm looking forward to going back to work full time. I've been working from home with 2 days in the office.

But the nature of my job means that I'm not necessarily at the mercy of Boris. If prison bosses say it isn't safe for me to return, then I won't be returning. And at the moment, it is not safe.

I've worked through from the very start last year in catering. The deliveries have been terrible.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

Oh Peach.... my heart goes out to you, I can totally relate. Back in the day before I was this broken I would have been feeling exactly like you, torn between wanting to be back at work and knowing that I only wanted the nice people to come in. If only people would have empathy and decency across the board.... or if only we could choose our customers.

Currently I'm just wanting to be put back together so I can actually consider finding a new job when the world gets back to normal

I deliver beer and wine etc to pubs restuarants theatres cinemas etc.....

I've done 17 days work since last March. It's an awful situation all round. Some people see the difficulties, some don't.

We also have to try to predict what to order, when to order, how many staff to bring back to get the orders out to customers.

Personally, I can't wait to get back. We have had staff that suddenly have become unobtainable during furlough which again makes our lives harder.

Please stick with your suppliers, we are all trying to work from the same page to restore the normal again.

I’ve worked all the way through but used to be a restaurant manager so totally get where you’re coming from. Customers can be total knobs at the best of times.

It's a bit different for me because I've been working throughout lockdown, however (and I think you know what I do for work OP!), once lockdown eases I'm sort of looking forward to the demands and expectations - I thrive in that sort of dynamic. Yes, some people will be dicks but I'm relishing the challenge of neutralising the dick splashes that occur.

That's not to belittle you in any way OP, it's more, I miss people. I miss it being fast paced and exciting, all the things I signed up for. At times I'll probably feel a bit stabby but gosh I miss the environment of a year or so ago.

Anyway, I have fingers crossed that it's not too awful for you Op. If it is, you can always rage at it to me because I know it well! x

I’ve been working from home now for 10+ months now as I’m CEV. My employer has said they don’t want me back until one month after I’ve had my second jab (which I reckon will put me around late May / early June time).

Not sure how I’ll fare having to travel back to central London after being away for so long.

We’ve been working throughout but we’ve both had retail jobs in previous lives and I think the would would be a better place if everyone did a stint in a customer facing role at some point. It might teach them to be a bit more patient and respectful.

Any do you know what? The people actually serving you usually can’t do anything about your complaint, they’re not paid anywhere near enough to make company decisions, place orders, write policies etc. If there’s an issue take it up with the owners/managers in a calm and reasonable manner.

I love it when someone tells a 17 yr old waitress they’re never coming back here .. as if she gives a shit?!

"I think people will be tolerant "

You don't know Dudley

We had a table demand a full refund before because the "atmosphere was different and they weren't relaxed"

They complained that staff weren't as talkative and friendly as before.

Erm.... that's because we're not allowed to be at the table any longer than necessary to take orders and deliver food.

Plus we have so much more work to do now, even if we wanted to and it wouldn't be breaking social distancing we simply don't have the time.

Some were fantastic, I'd defo say it was a 70/30 split last time, but the 30 were vile. There were more staff tears shed in those few months between lockdowns than there were in the last 3 years easily.

From someone who's watched from the sidelines and only seen what I've seen in the news or from friends who work in healthcare.. thank you.

I do think everyone should do a week in a customer facing role just to truly understand

I'm definitely torn.

In an ideal world I'd wow people with my service, they'd know I genuinely care and all leave happy.

It's just wank people think they have to treat you like shit to get what they want.

Nah, just don't be a dick and if it's doable it's doable!

I'm gonna start writing some "shut em down" lines I think to have ready to fire.

I miss making people smile, I miss seeing families getting on and laughing and knowing I've been part of making it happen.

I'm not too good at taking criticism I don't feel is deserved and need to learn how to brush it off better

There will be, they're the ones I'm really looking forward to welcoming. There are a few I've been properly worried about too, some of the regulars that I know have had health issues. I burst into tears of relief when they walked through the doors after last lockdown and was useless for about 20 mins

I've just had a week off and feel the dread about going back so I get where you're coming from a bit. Have they got masks and hand sani in? Are they still controlling numbers? Is the boss still telling everyone to 'challenge' people not wearing ppe?

So after almost a year of being out of it it must be a terrible feeling. I like to think that most people will feel apprehensive about going into restaurants so will listen to you and do what they have to do and, hopefully, behave. You'll get the odd moron but I'd say you'd be perfectly within your rights to ask them to leave.....but check with your boss first!

You'll be ok P x

I’m sorry to hear this. I’ve worked in pubs so I hear you.

I’ve worked most of the time through lockdown, and what I’ve enjoyed is seeing actual people, and being able to have a conversation. It feels normal.
