I only just learned this. But apparently (technically) a fetish is an interest in something or some body part that is not normally sexual but that without its involvement it’s not possible to perform a sex act. Whereas a kink can be something you enjoy but don’t need to have sex.
Every day is a school day. |

"Not sure about that, I think a fetish is something someone needs in order to be sexually stimulated where a kink is just something they find sexy. "
That’s just about the nuts and bolts of it .. The fetish is everything you need . The kink is what you do when you’ve got your fetish on .. Sorta |

Simply, A kink is an activity and a fetish is an activity that really gets you off or is the only thing that can get you off.
I (male) have a lot of kinks. I have zero fetishes. |

I'm glad the thread has been done. At least now I'm aware that if someone has a foot fetish for example, they'll NEED foot involvement. I thought it was just more of a desire or preference, something they enjoyed ya know rather than actually needing it get turned on.

There and to the left a bit |
I think fetishes are quite deep seated, innate and ingrained and a reason for having them may never be known or explained, though it's often said they can be informed by early experiences.
Kinks however are more learned and consciousness based, but may be inspired by an underlying fetish. |

A lot depends on which dictionary you use. I use the New Elizabethan dictionary from the late 1950s which states:
" A form of perversion in which sexual gratification is obtained from other than the genital parts of the body."
Modern dictionaries may be kinder, as would a psychological definition.
As with almost everything in the kink community nothing is set in stone, and noone agrees on anything. |

I would consider a kink to be something that arouses us that's not considered the sexual norm. A fetish is a sexual act or an object that is nearly always necessary for the person to become aroused and have a more enjoyable experience x |
