Threads closing

Why do threads close because the are getting “too big”. Surely that simply means they are popular. It’s not like we don’t pay for this site and it should be better to allow for popular threads to continue. Maybe introduce an edit button or allow deleted posts to be actually deleted. Seems the limitation to the thread size is down to terrible site management.

Given how some comments get quoted multiple times and end up at least three remotes long, they do get a bit out of hand. Also most ones that go over 100 become a bun fight

Most people just create a second part to the thread if they want to continue.

They used to go on and on and on for pages and pages but then they get too big for the server (I think, I'm not a techy) plus they were unreadable at times as there was just so many posts on them.

I like it where it stops at 175 posts.

Let's start loads of crappy threads to push them to page 2 where everything gets forgotten about

It is more to do with what Evie said plus when they were 700 odd posts to a thread it would be harder for people on phones. Part 2 is normally the best option.

You don't pay for the forums btw, they are free to use

It's when people quote an entire post, that someone else has added to ad infinitum, just to put a smiley face or a thumbs up at the end that grinds my gears.

Just delete the text you're not referring to and add something of substance

I'd like pagination and quotes where those being quoted are referenced/named in the quote, currently a large quote can be several people's words and you have to kinda guess where one stops and another starts.

But, having said that, I appreciate this is a niche website with an even nicher (is that a word?) forum, so I'm grateful to the sys admin for whatever they do. Keep up the good work, devs
