For those of you who are parents did you pre plan names for your children and are they traditional or a little out of the ordinary.

My eldest daughter has a pretty unsual name, people find it hard to pronounce and spell at first, i think when she was at school every teacher called her a different name
My other two have names that arnt main stream but not really unusual i didnt want my kids to have names that everyone elses kids had so i put a lot of thought into their names, i always wanted a Imogen but my ex hated the name so i never got one lol |

"I realy like charlotte for a girls name, especialy shortened to (rather than Lottie). My boy's name is not at all what i would have chosen....."
why not just call her Charlie?
I never get people who name their child then spend their who life using an abreviation why not just call them the name your going to be using on a daily basis in the first place |

I was going to have cain jonathan for a boy and Alicia Elizabeth for a girl. The night before i had callum i changed the boys name. Thing is when i had callum 22 years ago it was an unusual name noone really heard of it in england although popular in ireland and scotland, he was the only one in juniour and secondary school. Now its a ver popular name.
Where Jays daughter lives, Elsie is one of the popular names.
Wraith and Martha are my favourite names now |

I've never had kids - and am one of those with no intention of ever changing that!
But I've plenty of friends/relatives with em - and so far they've all seemed to pick names for a reason - elderly relatives, famous people they like or characters from books for example!
Guess its each to their own really - but do laugh at some people's choice of names these days - especially some celebs!!
And i personally think some are storing up a lifetime of ridicule for their kids - by choosing names that really shouldn't be put with their surname!
DJ Sara Cox is a perfect example! Quite what she was thinking when naming her son Isaac?????? |

I'm a Charlotte and was constantly called Charlie at school, but I hated it once I reached about 15. My family and close friends shorten it to Char..again I'm not keen on it, but I'm sort of stuck with it now. |

if i had a girl i was going to call her lucy.
i had a boy and gave him a very old fashioned name after a man and boy in my favourate book clayhanger, by arnold bennett.
now though their are lots of boys with that name.
i like old fashoined names and names that are a bit unusual, not too unusual though. |

Yes we pre planned our childs name. No it isn't a traditional name but has become more common in the last couple of years.

WHen we had our eldest the girl we were stuck between 2 names one she got then there was an explosion of that name which pissed us off, our son I wanted to be called Nathaniel but the wife wouldn't have it so its his middle name, his first name is quite unusual though, if we had anymore it would be keevey for a girl or krisnan for a boy |
