It is baltic outside so i am making a big pot of chili and a big pot of lentil soup to warm me up. What is your favourite dish during these colder months?.

Manchester (she/her)

Beef stew. Root vegetables, tomato puree (plus stock and whatever else I chuck at it), few herbs, simmer for awhile then into the oven on low heat (produces less watery sauce than slow cooker)

I quite like making a hearty pie, ideal for freezing too.

That sounds too complicated for me. Never made a stew or dumpling in my life.

Same, but add half a bottle of red wine and cooked down in a pressure cooker.

Chilli, stews, casseroles...the slow cooker gets a lot of use in the winter...

Using it almost daily atm (by that's because the cooker is a piece of shit)

I suppose it's a bit like combining your two; but I love a bit pot of tarka dhal. I do embellish it with a bit of spinach though.

Stews and curries usually done in the slow cooker.

Can't forget about winter desserts - home made rice pudding

Always with beans.

Mince and potatoes too. I like quick and easy cooking as not got much spare time.

.

Tartiflette.

Cheese fondue with medium rare steak, gherkins, lightly boiled new potatoes, carrot batons, sliced peppers.

Goats cheese risotto.

Jerk chicken with rice and peas and proper dumplings.

Cacio e pepe with more cheese than is good for you.

Jacket potatoes - sweet potatoes with feta and cucumber and roasted cherry tomatoes.

Chicken and tarragon pie with a creamy gravy and mash. Double cream, lots of butter, white pepper. Maybe some cheese if my boobs are shrinking.

Oh and the puddings! Like sticky toffee apple crumble with oats on top and piping hot vanilla custard. Or jam roly poly. Or dark chocolate fondant with ice cream.

I'm vegetarian and winter faves are:

Leek and mushroom risotto, cooked in the oven.

Thick lentil and tomato soup with minestrone, served with crusty bread.

Vegetarian lasagne with lots of aubergines, mushroom and courgettes.

I made a huge vat of lentil soup yesterday. Just had a big mug of it whilst working. Might do leek & potato later
