Happy or Sad Songs ?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

When I’m blue I prefer to listen to sad songs, they actually make me feel better. And when I’m happy I like something that reflects that too.

Saddest song I know is ‘I Get Along without you very well (except sometimes)’ by Nina Simone.

Happiest is probably the brilliant ‘I Wish’ by Stevie Wonder, all about his childhood.

What are your go-to happy/sad tunes ?

They usually reflect my mood yes. My cousin used to say when we were kids that i only sing when I'm very happy or very sad, she wasn't wrong there.

I will think of most suitable songs.. for sad one probably Tears in Heaven as when I first heard it my father told me a story behind it.

For happy ..first thoughts go to Blind Melon No Rain. That video and the storyline!

A little village

There isn’t one specific song but a few that move me to tears are

Sarah McLachlan - In the Arms of the Angels

The Eagles - Desperado

Luther Vandross - Dance with my Father

Happy songs - loads! But one that never fails to lift me up (for personal family reasons) is

Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - Come up and see me (make me smile)

I was told if you’re sad you listen to the lyrics, if you’re happy you listen to the melody.

"Happy: Superman - Black Lace

Old Shep really is a sad song. Elvis does melancholy so well.

Desperado is an absolute favourite of mine, including the Linda Ronsdadt version. Also love and miss big Luther - A House is not a Home definitely on my ‘sad’ list.

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact

"I was told if you’re sad you listen to the lyrics, if you’re happy you listen to the melody. "

I thought only I did that. I must be mostly happy then as I don't know the lyrics to hardly any songs save about half a dozen songs.

I’d never heard that theory before, will test it out.
