Just watching a film as it's way to cold to be out and I wondered if anyone had any favourite small moments in a film? Doesn't have to be a good film just a few moments that stand out to you

Ill start with the first scene in Golfinger when Bond changes out of a wet suit into an immaculate dinner suit. And as a final touch pops a carnation in his button hole.

Over to you?

Thanks for joining in. I always thought that was the best Bond film ever. So many twists and turns and totally perfect, but that's probably an age thing as I saw it at the pictures?

It's a bit morbid but I'm in awe of the moment when Woody Harrelson's character dies in The Thing Red Line. The way the camera sweeps away through the long grass for a second and then comes back to show his face full of fear. It's very powerful and maybe one of the best dying scenes in film.

I ADORE this film and watched it again yesterday. The But Lancaster 'Hey rookie' gets me too.

But my entry to this list is a little known film called Cemetery Junction. The scene is the realisation moment by Freddie when he gets told that a client fell off a roof. It hits me so hard each time I see it. Just beautiful.

The Dark Knight Opening scenes are amazingly well put together.

Robin Williams in Dead Poet Society, giving a young Ethan Hawke a lesson, that you can tell will change his life forever.

The Godfather Part 2 - Al Pacino seeing his brother, the late John Cazale, and acknowledging him with a kiss of death.

Deer Hunter - the bar scene, all the guys returning to the bar and knowing that their lives will change forever and probably never see each other in the same way again. Apparently it was filmed days after John Cazale was told his (real) life expectancy had been dramatically shortened, with treatment not working as well as hoped. The emotions are palpable.

"Good Will Hunting scene where Robin Williams is telling Will about his wife. Completely ad-libbed and Matt Damon’s hysterical laughter is completely genuine"

It's a great movie. Must rewatch it!

When Cheyenne meets Harmonica in Once Upon a Time in the West.

Also on a Western tip, the ending of For a Few Dollars More when Eastwood interrupts the duel... the tension, amped up by the Morricone soundtrack, is superb.

Star Wars 1977 before the film has even started properly.

The little spaceship zipping along and it looks like it's under fire.

Then Wow !

The spaceship chasing it is a little bit bigger ?

Then Holy crap, that imperial spaceship chasing it is much, much bigger!!!

The music, the famous crawl across the screen, it was AWESOME !

That film is full of such brilliantly stupid moments. My own favourite (and quite apt given the weather) is when Jeff Daniels is in the snow with the love interest. She playfully flicks some snow at him and you see his attitude get serious as he makes a snowball and blasts it in her face from close range. Cracks me up

So many great mentions in this thread.

Im going to come back again to a film already mentioned -Jaws - it really was a game changer and so well directed and cast and has many, many great moments. One of the best for me was a scene early on when Brody is sitting on the beach looking out to the sea and the stark realisation of what is going on is right in front of him - you will remember as the camera work is brilliant and used a technique known as a "dolly zoom" where the camera tracks backwards but the lens zooms in at the same time - simple but so strikingly effective. Hitchcock had used this technique in some of his films and if used sparingly and suitably it has real impact.

Lord of the rings return of the king

PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.

GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.

GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.
