I've been asked to moe down south for a promo at work, means more penny's but I know noone there... Making friends isn't a problem.

Anyone done it and was it worth it? I'm not particularly money driven but I like a challenge.....

Just a thought, but have you factored in the higher cost of living down south against the increase in salary (obviously the increase in status/position is another factor) to see if it there really is a monetary benefit (assuming that's a motivational factor) and that you're not just going to end up effectively doing more for the same (or god forbid less)?

we recently [ april ] moved 70 miles away from all of our friends and family, gave up commuting into London, and set up our own business run from home, we now live in a 200 year old cottage, and although skint we have never been happier. Do what makes you happy life is too short for regrets....good luck

It will be cheaper to live where I'm relocating to. I've done the sums and I'll be a cpl of quid up for not a lot extra work. Money ay really a factor it's not my main concern... Ty for the help tho

How much time have you got? Well I have done it a few times going up to Aberdeen which was a god forsaken place in the winter to Nigeria and even Siberia. I have a happy medium now away and back for a bit but you have to go where the work is long and short of it. If you can quadruple your salary then its a no brainer I just couldn't refuse but I know a lot who get home sick.

Best option is to see if you can do it on a trial period and see if you like where they are sending you. If not look at alternatives. Remember change is never all bad or good just a mixture of the 2.

I did the opposite....moved from the London area to the Westcountry.

Did miss the wage rates at first but thought it was a good pay-off to live somewhere a little nicer.

Regarding the higher cost of living in the London area....property prices and property rentals aside it's a bit of an urban myth.

In my experience it's often far more expensive to live outside of London when compared to the Devon area.

The average temperature in the South East during the summer months is higher than the Westcountry.....by some distance.

Have lived in a few different places in my our both in England and Scotland and enjoyed where we have stayed but the roots are firmly down now as mrs wants to stay in her home town which is where we finished up.

Go for it.

The only shorts worth having are behind the bar in Scotland...
