I like him and his music do you? I also like his story to fame. I would put him amongst the best ones, if not THE best rapper, from lose yourself to I am not afraid which is my favourite one, he is a lyrical genius |

Not for me.
There are certain rappers I enjoy more than others. Some I don't get/like but they're held in high regard by their peers and the industry etc.
I don't put any at "best" but I enjoy Dr Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Kanye, 50 Cents, Ja Rhule and Eminem too. |

Definitely a lyrical genius! I stumbled across a you tube channel of a guy breaking down his lyrics and explaining them. A lot of his lyrics have multi meanings and plays on words that most people overlook and are sheer brilliance. The profanity he uses probably turns a lot of people off to his talents sadly. |

"Hes definitely the most lyrical rapper. No one is on par with him that way. He rhymes orange with banana in one of his new ones lol"
J Cole puts Eminem to shame in my opinion. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves! |

Some great rappers and lyricists mentioned including M&M,Kendrick,J.Cole,50,KRS-One, Guru from Gangsta etc. But for me the guy that's doing it at the moment on a "low key" famous level, with amazing flows, lyricisms, word play, proper "Freestyle" of the top of his head, you name it he has IT, is........Harry Mack. Check out his Omegle Bars on YouTube....it will give you brain orgasms!!! |

Think he was very successful in making that cross over from making 'black music 'popular amongst white people without losing any credibility.
He is also great in 8 mile which is a massively underrated film. |

Absolutely no way !! Hes very very good, but you need to go back to the Golden Era of hip hop to hear real genius, many old school rappers did it of the top of their head rapping about what was in front of them at that minute ! Try Rakim "Follow the Leader" or anything by KRS-One for real lyrical content |

Easily the best. There is a depth to his lyrics no one else does. The way he t'd up MGK something else. You have to really read into his work to see the true genius behind it. |

Even Eminem says he’s not. The title can’t go to any one rapper. There’s no way to judge them all - including unsigned ones - and “best” is a personal thing. Favourite ... sure. That’s subjective. Objectively though? Impossible to say. |

His lyrics are insanely good! "Like Home" specifically, from Revival is fantastic, personally.

Eminem hasn’t had a proper club banger. Hip hop is derived from music you dance to, and he’s not had that one track that gets the whole family up at a wedding. A great MC yes, but the greatest? No. He is some way behind Biggie and Jay Z for me |

Rap isn’t my favourite genre, I do like a bit of Eminem, but as the mother of a teenage boy who takes over the car stereo I’m now quite ‘wiv it’ and don’t mind a bit of Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Post Malone, Logic, Slow Thai etc. I am beyond cool!

Throwing Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, B Dolan, J ay-Z and Saul Williams into the pot.
I like Eminem and think he’s great at what he does but I’d need far more range to hold him that high up. |

An ugly reprehensible musical genre. Pure poison that contaminates young minds. Subliminal degradation of the human condition. Requires no vocal instrumental or rhythmic talent . Just stutter and spout mindless incomprehensible nonsense into a microphone. |

Thanks for that. If you genuinely think that it requires no rhythmic talent then I suggest your sense of rhythm may be lacking.
Either way nice to see an accepting mindset on here. I mean we don't all like the same kind of music, but I'll respect the talent required to make it. But then we can't all be into Cliff Richards or Gregorian Plainsong (to be honest I hated it back in my days as a fresh faced young Chorister, RSCM Cathedral Singer I'll have you know). |

I get his importance and lyrical brilliance, but I struggle with his voice.
I think the likes of Rakim, Mos Def, The Roots, J Live, Q-Tip, Michael Franti are better to listen too.
Just personal preference though. |

For what he done with the Rap Game and taking it to new heights within the mainstream you have to admire that whether you like him or not.
For me he is a lyrical genius, some of his rhymes and flows you wouldn't ever be able to touch.
However, another lyrical genius is Tupac. That guy really knew how to rap. And the amount of empowering songs he made is unreal. |

No, he's not. in his prime he was a niche and therefore good, and he is an AMAZING lyricist, but honestly? he's really not THAT good.
Allow me to educate.
Hopsin - Kumbaya.
NF - Leave me alone/The Search/When I grow up.
Tom MacDonald - No lives matter, People so stupid.
Listen to all those, and then tell me that rap is bad, or that Em is the GOAT!
:P

99% of the rappers mentioned above including M&M had their part to play in making the genre what it is today....some more than others from Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc,Doug E. Fresh through to Kool Moe Dee,Big Daddy Kane LL, Chuck D, Biggy, 2Pac, Naz, Jay, Jayne, Kendrick etc. But the new kid on the block with amazing lyrical flow, wordplay, incredible cadence of the top (of the head) Freestyle is......Harry Mack.
Check out his Omegle Bars 1.

We kinda agree, for example you certainly can't compare the likes of Elvis Presley or Freddie Mercury with rappers, those two guys REALLY could sing |

You can’t compare because they’re in a completely different music genre.
That’s like comparing Whitney Houston to Slipknot. |

There's a difference between your personal favorite and the actual best. The latter being near impossible to judge as the criteria on which you could grade is so open to interpretation.
There are rappers that are technically gifted and brilliant lyricists but not so much to my personal taste.
Then there are ones whose music I enjoy and consider it to be "deep" lyrically but are they the best? Probably not.
Nas, J. Cole, Andre 3000, Jay Z, Kanye and the much underrated Lauryn Hill, are all rappers that I hold in high regard for either their lyrics, rapping style or overall music. Definitely not for their personal conduct as Kanye certainly wouldn't be on there otherwise |

And oddly Corey Taylor Slipknot is pretty good spittin em out on the track ironically named ‘spit it out’.
Doesn’t count as rap genre, but his speed, tone, and the power in those lungs are actually pretty impressive. Technically he’s good and his dynamic range is impressive, even if it makes you ears bleed |

That is a masterclass; done live, done hard.
If you can get through it, check out 4m56s. Luckily the stadium didn’t have a roof as it would have blown clean off at this point.
I defy you to find any other rapper that can work a crowd like that. |

If a singer can hit every single note then that's vocal talent, just how many singers really can do that ?? also talent needs no voice training - if you've got it,you've got it, no need for any training vocally.
Look at the tribute concert to Freddie Mercury - NONE could hit the notes he hit and most admitted they could not sing the songs
Both Elvis and Freddie could have even sang opera, how many rap singers could do that, lol. |

Where is the relevance in this post?
Elvis a great musician, agreed, Freddie a great musician, agreed. But music and talent take many forms. Whether either could have sung opera I'll take issue with, as there is so much technique and training required to master the breath control and projection (amongst other skills) needed.
As I pointed out earlier in this thread, I have sung Plainsong when I was a chorister, and I was good (in my humble opinion) having sung in most of the Cathedrals in this country when I was a member of the Royal School of Church Music. But I'll tell you this plainsong is bloody dull, (again in my humble opinion) as it's only a few notes and it durges along. But some people love it, and more power to them.
Music is about expression of thoughts, ideas and ultimately about bringing pleasure to the listener. It is good if it succeeds at that. I very much doubt you'll have been to a Cradle of Filth gig, but those that have most probably loved it. By the same token if you put Michael Buble on your stereo and enjoy it that's fantastic. (I'll probably want to take a cricket bat to the stereo but hey, I won't)
Don't you think it's a bit insulting that just because you don't enjoy a genre of music it's perfectly acceptable to say it's not as good as a genre that you do enjoy?
And breath....
