Irational fear!
Jump to: Newest in thread
In my new job I have to cycle past a cemetery to get there! At 3 30 in morning! It's the same one I had to walk past to get home from town as a teenager! I still dare not look sideways and pedal extra fast! Crazy! As the living are more scary than the dead! What's your fear? X |

"When I was very ill, quite a few years ago, I couldn't leave the house because I was scared that gravity would just stop being, and I would float away.
One of the worse times of my life.
"
I kinda understand this
If I travel by plane, I feel like I am floating / weightless and I lose sensation in my legs
AFAIK it's anxiety driven |

I could remove a spider with my spider catcher grabbing thingy BUT a butterfly or moth in the same room as me is a screaming, panicking major problem.... and that's just my boyfriend trying to calm me down
Her x |

I'm not sure I have any full on petrifying phobias. Saying that, there are an awful lot of things in the world that I haven't come face to face with to know if I'm truly terrified of them. |

"For me it’s the under side of ships.
I love ships specially Royal Navy ships but anything below the water line actually makes me go funny.
Can’t explain why but it’s horrifying to me."
I get that too, but it's a weird dizzy sick feeling, not a scared feeling. |

Yes exactly that.
Take the Cutty Sark in Greenwich for example. Even tho she’s in dry dock, if I go close to her and see the her keel then I’m light headed and have to walk away. |

The sea or any large bodies of deep water
I nearly drowned on holiday in a pool around the age of 4 so could be why
Swimming pools and stuff are fine. But the Sea or vast lakes really make me uncomfortable |

I hate that feeling. It's why I can't go on rollercoasters or fast rides at the theme park. |

I can kinda get that
I lived in a house when i was maybe about 12. The previous owner had hung himself in the garage and we didnt find out until we had bought the house. Was a proper old rickerty thing aswell with old wooden beams ect. Used to keep wood for the fire in there and i used have to go in at night.
Was proper nightmare fuel |

"I'm terrified of windows with no curtains after dark. I sometimes house sit for a friend, they have no covering at their kitchen window and I can't go in there after dark "
I used to make myself go in but not look at the window then gradually look at it for longer each time till I'm ok with them now!maybe I should look into the cemetery x |

My house only has curtains in 2 rooms. When I walk up the stairs I imagine someone watching me from the downstairs window. |

"Snakes but only after being bitten by an adder and hospitalised! So maybe not that irrational! "
I heard snakes is quite a normal one though in general.
Something about it being hardwired in us from whatever we evolved from as they would of been one of our natural predators
Like most babies will show higher stress levels when shown pictures of snakes like they just inherently know they are bad news |

Wouldnt surpise me actually if it was the same for spiders. Not being a predator as such, but being bitten by one probably wouldnt of been good news when we where proto-humans especially as a child |

That would frighten me. I know it's daft but I imagine a face looking in at me |

What about when the dog senses something in the darkness but you don't? |

Heights - but irrationally so as I get older
Even standing on a chair makes my legs shake - and going down escalators makes my stomach lurch and all I can see is me losing balance and cracking my head open
As a youngun I did a sky dive and a bungee jump - admittedly the only good thing about them was that I was still alive afterwards but I didn't have the fear I have now. |

I think that's because as we get older our inner ear decays and we find it harder to stay balanced. |

My dog stares at the kitchen window. Scares the life out of me even though I know he's listening for foxes. |

Good point!
I also have flat feet and am ridiculously clumsy - so falling over is a real fear.
I didn't consider the ear thing though x |

It's a triad of things, eyesight, inner ear and muscle flexibility... All get worse with age. Oh the boring stuff I learn at work |

Talking on the phone is one of mine too.
But usually my fears are imaginings , that my brain for some unknown reason comes up with, about bad things happening to my children.
Whatever the worst thing imaginable is, my brain will run through it in real detail and it terrifies me. |
