and all the other TV "presenters"

just interested, no other reason, but why are they paid so much when the only real talent needed to do the job is the ability to read an autocue??

Whilst I do think they are overpaid, I think there is more to it than that.

They have to be able to be natural and calm with the pressure of millions of people watching. They are permanently taking instructions from the director through their earpieces whilst doing their stuff for the camera. They have to have conversations with a variety of people and make them interesting for the viewer. They have to be on the ball all the time.

There's also recognisability. They have spent years in the industry building up a profile which means people recognise them and feel comfortable watching them rather than total strangers. This helps bring in advertising revenue which pays for them and running the TV stations. TV companies want the big names so they offer big bucks so they don't go to rival companies.

I agree that it's shit that they get so much (though as I understand it, Mr S gets a lot more than Mrs W) than others get who may physically exert themselves more or put themselvesin more danger, there is more to it than reading an autocue like a North Korean news presenter.

Those two in particular farm very comfortable off script in a live TV situation.

I don’t watch their show because it’s not really for me.

If you don’t like them, there’s plenty of choice out there.

I was wondering where the farm came into it.

Couldn't agree more. Money for old rope. Worse thing is BBC turn these people into welknown personalities by putting them in front of cameras day after day and then say... Oh we have to pay them a lot of money because they are so popular!! Absolute bullshit. Also the same twats keep turning up on different programme tone after time eg Bradley Bloody Walsh to name one. To be honest he comes across as a nice bloke... But so does Dave down the pub.

Have you ever tried to read an autocue and/or present in front of a live audience?

No?

I thought not..........

They're able to hold the attention of a number of the (Great) British public for a number of hours.

No mean feat!

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact

I don't get how Ant and Dec both carved out illustrious careers. But nowadays people form careers by wearing a bikini on paid for holidays and posting their holiday pics onto social media. So in that regard, they're probably dripping with talent by comparison.

No ire at all. You seem full of assumptions based on your own furtive imagination it seems or could it be your aim is to troll for an argument?? Whichever it is. May I suggest that you read the OP a little more thoroughly? Especially the part that says “just interested, no other reason “

I cant stand either of them or their patronising daytime TV bollocks.

All day time TV and presenters are awful - anyone that sits at home watching that is in danger of their brain melting

O o O oo

I think I agree with Mary

To the OP though, you can see for some people the autocue is a problem, some really don't look natural while reading it, so they do get that bit right plus they can ad lib where some people presenting can't.

However, I think once people get some good comments about themselves they think they are the bees knees which is not a good trait. He now thinks good telly is to interrupt everyone , even Holly and that his voice and face pulling is the only thing people want to see...it isn't, so yes before anyone tells me off, I just turn over

Yes, the interruptions too ... like Piers Morgan demanding answers to questions no one has the answer to, but why do they command such high wages is the part i don't understand, compared to someone who spent years studying and doing exams to earn a fraction of what these people earn where there are no qualifications needed??

Because they attract people to watch the programmes , the programmes make money for adverts etc etc

Some people must like them

We all have choices of what we do in life, if we go study for something that we know is going to pay less than the next person that isn't their fault

In which case I'd say it was because they're really good at their jobs and can command a high salary, whereas someone with a lot less talent won't earn anywhere near as much..

And as you have experience in their field, you'd know how hard it is.

Many people do the same job as me, but earn much more. Good for them, it's not something that bothers me or I lose sleep over.
