Top 3 Guitarists Of All Time?

"Name Your Top 3? Let’s Keep It Friendly! Everyone Has There Own Opinion.
My 3
1. Dave Gilmore
2. Johnny Marr
3. John McGeoch
"
I find it hard to judge who is "best", it really depends on the criteria. Technically you would have to consider the likes of Satriani or Via.
Favourite guitarist though is a different thing. For me, it is:
1. Richie Somborne
2. Brian May
3. John Curry

Not the greatest but three of the guitarist
Pat Methany
Larry Carlton
Pat Martino (not Al)
But if you narrow it to Blues Rock MOR orientated any three mentioned in the thread, but will throw in...
Michael Bloomfield
John Martyn
Stevie Ray Vaughan |

"1. David gilmour
2.gary moore
3. Eddy van halen"
Wondered if anyone would mention Gary? Yes... but I’d swap your Eddy for Clapton, and if we include bass then Chuck in Mark King.
But limited to three? Behave! |

Brian Setzer
Jerry Reed (check out YouTube, even Chet Atkins looks at him, as though thinking 'how the hell can you play like that')
Third spot is a difficult choice between Dave Edmunds (check out 'Sabre Dance', for long solos) & (the aforementioned) Stuart Adamson (a hell of a lyricist/story-teller too) |

I went down the whole thread thinking that someone would mention Kossoff and it wasn't until the last post I read.
Lots of great names above and I couldn't argue against any of them
However I'll chuck a couple of extra ones in that haven't been mentioned yet.
Richie Blackmore.
Joe Bonnamassa. |

I had Ritchie Blackmore as my all time favourite and best guitar player |

"It's interesting that the choices are mostly the more mature. Are there any young guitarists of note? Are tastes changing, I suspect so."
I posted this lad the other week on another thread, he's obviously a bit older now, not sure what he's doing now.

Also, have a look at candy rat record label for some very talented/skilled musicians |

Interesting point.
There’ll be a 12 year-old gypsy guitarist somewhere in France etc who plays better than all the above .
I’m partly serious - those kids are astonishing. |

Slash is my favourite guitarist
Love Paul Gilbert too
And Richie Sambora
I mean... those second and third aren’t my favourites in a list. I just love so many great players. But yeh, Slash is my favourite. I’m not concerned with technical ability but how kick ass the playing is and the riffs and songs are. |

Thing with Slash is, he actually is massively talented technically as well... Some of his solo stuff is incredible, especially when he uses classical and Spanish guitar elements.. |

Lack of Tom Morello of Rage against the machine mentions here
He’s one of those people were if I heard him. It couldn’t be anyone else, you don’t confuse his playing with anyone.

"Eddie van halen
Michael angelo batio
Rick parfitt"
Michael Angelo Batio....jeezo, I remember getting a copy of his Star Licks videos in the late 80’s early 90’s and just laughing at it. He was an incredible show off. |
