"Isn’t that a grill?
A grill on an automatic timer would be great.
You'd get just the right level of toasty meltyness without it bursting into flames because you'd forgotten it lol "
They do exist

I saw the other day in the shop that they now sell cheese slices (not the processed stuff) made to fit standard sized bread.
I have a four slice toaster which is great for putting two sliced on their side. |

"Has no one manufactured an on its side toaster specifically for cheese on toast?
Because we have a grill surly? "
I'm not so sure having seen some of the other kitchen gadgets that we really don't need either. |

Mind you, it's only in the last few years that I've realised the numbers on the side of the toaster were minutes and not specifically level of toastyness |

doesn't solve your problem, but a couple of years ago I bought a see through toaster... absolute game changer!
I can see how toasted my toast is before taking my toast out of the toaster! |

"Someone made little toaster bags you can put food into the toaster in.
I think I must have got them from Wilkinsons.
I have those but they're not really any good for cheese on toast."
Probably better for cheese toasties, although they are supposed to be non-stick so food doesn't stick to them.
I like my cheese brown and bubbling on my toast. |
