No Jim I didn't but I did used to have a voice recorder which I would always talk to. Sadly it disappeared. I'd love to listen to what weird shit I used to talk about when I was a crazy child. It was probably about nine year old me humping action man.

Thank the lord I am very normal now.

Did you used to write a diary? I'd love a little snippet if you did!

I kept a diary from age 15 to 27. They were big diaries with about 7 lines for each day. Threw them out 5years ago and regretted it ever since.

You first Jim!

I only wrote in a diary on occasion, normally when I was feeling depressed and particularly self-involved, but if anyone ever read them I'd turn inside out with embarrassment! I can't read them on my own without cringing so if anyone else did.......

I did. But it made me realise how uneventful my daily life was.

It’s alright if you’re Ranulph Fiennes, and every day is an adventure - but when you’re Sandra from Cardiff going to College every day by bus, before going home for tea, it’s not quite the same . I could have made it sound like a Die Hard movie but meh it was only me reading it.

I wrote a diary in 1994-95 but threw it away years ago. It mostly contained thoughts on how much I disliked PE, rugby league and my shyness at not asking out a girl I was friends at high school with. Standard Adrian Mole stuff I guess

Mrs kept detailed diaries 1995-1998 while we travelled

Mon 31st March 1996

Picked up Kevin and Jo and went on an adventure in Bertha(Hillman Avenger) to the beach and town of Whangamata. Bought toe rings and earrings, went to Kevs cousins who gave us loads of vveed and rolled us a couple. Went shopping for food but just bought loads of vodka and munchies, then a long slow drive up winding gravel roads to corramandel where we broke into kevs aunties house (we had permission) it’s a great farm house and we had it all to ourselves , we played presidents and assholes , skulling vodka and crashed quite early

First after Epiphany

Now I know I am an intellectual. I saw Malcolm Muggeridge on the television last night, and I understood nearly every word. It all adds up. A bad home, poor diet, not liking punk. I think I will join the library and see what happens.

It is a pity there aren’t any more intellectuals living round here. Mr Lucas wears corduroy trousers, but he’s an insurance man. Just my luck.

The first what after Epiphany?

I think I’ve shared a lot of what would have been diary excepts over years on here.

However I used a journal in a different way as it was a development journal that I used in relation to going through significant personal change and learning. I do keep those journals but they are archived in the loft. What I learned I wrote up in various forms.

The stuff I have learned frequently gets shared in here.

The closest I came to any diary of sorts was when I was in an abusive relationship.

It got to the point that I was writing things down or voice recording them as my own evidence. Part of the M.O of a narc is to twist things and deny things that happened or claim things that didn't. I used them to refer back to to see if I was as insane/forgetful as he would insist I was.

I'm so glad I did it

No, I didn’t keep a diary, but I did write poetry, found it helped get everything off of my chest. I burned everything the night that the first Mrs Stu found some poetry I’d written in my teens and she took it all personally, nothing salacious or outrageous, just some stuff about embracing death like a long lost over type of stuff..... it was never written to be read by anyone so I burnt all my

Poetry and all of my short stories and I never set pen to paper again in the same way...... looking back I suppose I should have been happy that something I’d written so long ago could evoke emotions in someone else.

I’ve kept a diary my whole life, however it is very very light on sexual adventures and swinging as I do intend them to be read by descendants at some point.

A good few years ago I did consider having a diary purely for my naughty adventures, but decided I wanted a part of my life private

Hell no.

It would be so sad if I did write them.

Went to school, got bullied. Laughed at pathetic Eddies kids, trying to punch me as I rode past them

Went to school, got into a fight.

Went to school, skipped a double lesson. Beat my time cycling home, also hit 24mph on the flat.

Hardly Adrian Mole's diary.

Why can't I be first violin? It's not like [redacted] is any good, it's just because they look nice and they are the favourite. It makes me so angry. I always do everything right but it gets ignored. On the front page of one of mine from when I was a kid, it has an ‘About the Author’ page. One of the questions was “if you had a pet talking snail, what would you call it?” I answered ‘I would ask him his name and what his favourite colour was so I can paint his shell house’

Okehampton

I have an old box of love letters from my teens/twenties. But not a diary.

I remember times when the front door was always open and everyone was huddled around the fire in the front room.

I never understood why they didn't just shut the front door, it'd be much warmer!

Ugh I did yes and had older sisters that would find and read them. Excruciating stuff, I just wouldnt be able to even look at them let alone read, I was practising thinking sexual thoughts. They ended up with another sister mistakenly after Mum had a clear out and I instructed her to burn them. After she had had a sneaky read too no doubt. Awful

Chester

Unfortunately no diaries for me when I was younger, probably just as well, I wouldn’t be able to understand my dyslexic ramblings anyways

I had a diary.

I faked being ill once to stay off school, and my mam made me eat nothing but soup for a week. In my diary I recited Oliver Twist being the drama queen I am.

I woke one day to my mam singing "food glorious food" to me

Needless to say she read the diary and I never wrote in one again

Only once I have ever kept a diary, it was my pregnancy diary on my first child. Lovely memory keepsake.
