I'm missing my fitness and my tone has completely .. And at my age if feels like a near impossible thing to get back

My MH is OK at the moment, but when I'm sliding, the gym is an amazing pick me up

I have a friend who was in that exact position during the first lockdown. Going to the gym was all about MH for him. He obviously couldn't replicate the whole gym at home but he bought a punchbag, skipping rope and some weights and found using them really helped. Is there anything you could do at home, or an outdoor exercise you could try for now?

I've seen ShagTonight give tips on home workouts before, I'm sure there'll be some good threads on that on here.

I know you can't replace the social side of the gym but you don't need much to keep some training up at home, small bench and dumbells, planks, pressups and crunches. Lot's of motivational training tips and workouts on you tube. I've actually not been to the gym for 20 years but since lockdown kitted out my shed and got motivated through fear of getting even more unfit than I already was.I realise you obviously enjoy the company of others at the gym and the craic but you can self motivate and train without interuptions at home.

Have you a friend with whom you can go walking or running or cycling? I know it's small but it's a step in the right direction?

Do something different. Like work on mobility, calisthenics or trying to set a 5k PB.

The mindset to improve is transferable and that’s what you need to keep engaged

You have been in great shape OP. Fabbed your pics! I miss training too and it's important for physical and me well-being. I think all you can do is to substitute some good things that you can do without the gym, including creating a life routine, where you'll include exercise in to your daily life as much as possible. Keep an eye on your emotional wellbeing and look for ways that you can support yourself, not just including via exercise. Take care!

I miss the gym too,but I've found some restiance bands and walks have kept me sane ISH...I've also knackered my shoulder so it's going to be a while before I can squat again....which really pisses me off as I was doing soo we'll be fore this.

From the land of haribos.

I am training at home with sand and my physique is almost the best condition it have ever been like, there are alot some can do at home and gyms are not necessary to go to, training with time under tension is the key for progress

I'd like to apologise. My resolution to get fitter and joining a gym has been the cause for the last two lock downs and high tiers! I think it has only been open for 3 weeks since I joined in October!

Try to remain positive and think of this an opportunity to try to reset goals as 10 times a week may have been a little excessive? Try other things to remain active it won't be long before its light enough to cycle, run or walk outside.

I miss the gym as well OP and it can be mentally difficult. I have been doing something a different, i brought a second hand mountain bike for £50. Its not great, but it does the job. I have also done a lot of walking in the woodlands. I found keeping in touch with nature, is brilliant for mental health.

I'm going to tell on you, C

I'm missing the gym and even more, wheelchair basketball. Facebook helpfully reminded me that one year ago yesterday, my team and I came second in a tournament. That weekend, we'd played in the Midlands and North Cumbria in the same weekend, we'd travelled hundreds of miles, shared cars, played loads of basketball and stayed in on a farm in an Airbnb. It was so much fun and I miss that so so much

I'm really missing it, can't get any motivation outside the gym, and have replaced bench pressing with eating my own weight in chocolate.

I really feel your pain op, im suffering.

We are both really missing it.

We've managed to up our home gym equipment stock since last lock down, but miss the social buzz, the burn of a really hard workout, the euphoria afterwards and being able to push our bodies hard.

None of which is really available in our kitchen gym!

Open soon please!

Try body weight exercises mate, there’s some great press up variations to target chest shoulders and triceps. Get a pull up bar too.

I’m finding I’m probably getting a better workout doing the above, I’m certainly getting gains.

Bands (for squats)

Slider Discs

AB roller

And push up bars

are all cheap and good to use.

You should also try and get some light weights.

If you slow your movements down and do lots of pulses you will still get a bit of a burn.

Home workouts have their moments, and I am still making progress, but its nothing like going to the gym.
