"That I'm common as muck
Same
My parents lack creativity and I was born in the 80s"
Same - but born in the sixties- It could have been worse though: I could have been a Kevin or a Wayne. Apologies to any Kevin's or Wayne's in advance. |

I'm common. There were three of us in my school with the same christian name and surname. I've worked with another two over the years.
No chance of ever tracking me down on Facebook without my mobile number - of the 7.6bn people on earth I think at least 500m share my name. |

I can't do first and surname, but my graduating class there were ten of us with my first name. I hate it |

Haha, ten is pretty extreme! My class was mostly blokes, so that would probably have raised some eyebrows |

Depends if it's my full first name or my shortened version?
I guess my full Christian name would indicate to some that I could be a posh bird, especially coupled with where I'm from.
Shortened?? Not sure really |

Where I was born, my name was top five. I think for my cohort possibly more common than Mary |

"Not singling anyone out. No need to reveal your names.
Do you think names tell you about people?
Without picking on anyone else... what might your name say about you?"
My parents thought 'let's make life interesting for him, let's give him a name he has to phonetically spell every time someone needs it'
My middle name was to appease my Irish Catholic Grandmother |

I have one of those rubbish names that people don't call babies anymore as it's so boring. Secretly glad Karen got picked on, as mine could also have been in the running for that stereotype |

"I don't think your name tells you about you, I think it tells you about your parents."
Spot on.
I was nearly called Robyn, which I actually like. But I guess I would have got all the Batman jokes |

"Depends where I am, in Wales that I'm from a Welsh speaking family and have a common as name.
If it's someone not from the UK they presume I'm male. "
That's perfectly understandable Derek |

As a child I didn’t know anyway else who had the same name.
I was jealous of those called Amanda , Sharon etc as they get personalised pencil cases.
I know of one other now. |

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact |
People think my real name is cool and often think it's not my real name and then proceed to ask what is it short for. When I explain it isn't short for anything I am often then asked 'does it mean anything?' They crack up and/or are bemused when I explain the origin of it all and it is in fact nonsense. |

"Your birth name says nothing about you. It says rather more about your parents, however. "
Do some people find they live up to their names? Or rather do some people have certain preconceptions surrounding certain names so treat people a certain way? I'm thinking in Indian culture names and caste have a strong lineage? But I'm also thinking there are more base prejudices surrounding British names too. |

That my parents were a bit bohemian/alternative/pretentious (delete as appropriate). I have never met anyone with my name who is older than me, but there are plenty of 10 year olds and under. I think it's a bit common now, which is hilarious considering the reasons my parents chose it in the first place. |

I know that feeling, plus nobody can damn well pronounce it, spell it, and constantly try to shorten it |
