The Grudge
Staring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
It's a remake of a Japanese classic.
That shit gave me nightmares for weeks and I couldn't look in the mirror when doing my teeth |

Most of the old ones from late 80s were good hammer house of horror but
Are some pretty good ones via movie box you get latest too few years old insidious was good if you watch them all together so you kept up-to-date on the story |

Definitely! Get Out is amazing. I really enjoyed Host, I jumped at a few scenes. The Cleansing Hour is really good as well. I'm trying to think of a few more. Train to Busan but not sure that's horror as such. Hmmm. |

One of my favourite films of recent years. Not actually so scary, more psychological tension. Very recommend. |

Recently rewatched the early 90s 'Candyman' film, (adapted from Clive Barker story). Hadn't seen it since its original release, and it definately stood the passing of time, was very surprised at how bloody and gory it was for its era, so if you're looking for an old-school bogeyman slasher horror (but challenging certain conventions) then it may be your thing.
More contemporary, is the indies 'It Follows' with subtle, visual oddities create a sense of uncertainty throughout the story.
Also, for more of a drama rather than any obvious horror and with a focus instead on low key unease theres Kirsten Stewart in 'Personal Shopper'.
'Us', is a very clever, enjoyable, and smart film, with fun shocks and dark humour.
I have to mention 'Midsommer'. A well crafted film but i found it truly disturbing and ultimately depressing in its shocking events. It's not one I'd want to revisit. For me it didn't provide anything cathartic in the way i enjoy stories about confronting 'monsters', as its a story - (spoiler alert) - where a callous evil triumps. |

"Event Horizon
It's a good space one and has Dr Grant in from Jurassic Park"
Brilliant film!! Haunted house movie set in space was the best way I heard it described.
Shame it was a flop as a prequel would of been great showing where the event horizon had been and what happened. Now that could of been one of the most gory violent films of all time.
Was based on black hole, never actually seen it but should watch it one day. |

I agree about a prequel.
It could have been done very well.
Alternative dimensions is a good concept for films and books with endless potential. |

Loved ‘The Others’...creepy yet really moving...
The Shining...It Follows...and recently rewatched ‘Drag me to Hell’...smart, funny and gross. For a classic check out ‘The Innocents’ ...still the best adaptation of Turn of the Screw and genuinely disturbing... |

"I rewatched the 3 original Omans last week, they terrified me as a kid, well 1 and 2 did I never saw 3 and thank god for that it's rubbish,
They are not scary at all now, but modern standards. "
Good point about becoming desensitised.
Years ago I'd squirm at some stuff, but when I watched Hostel I didn't bat an eye lid

Oof, it’s a rough ride that one.
I’m mostly just popping in here to defend Horror Express. It has Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing, a great monster, a killer theme tune and Telly Savallas in the last half hour as a macho Cossack. Perfect Sunday afternoon flick! |

Clive Barker is brilliant with the horror genre , some he has made into movies .....
Candyman,
Hellraiser,
Midnight meat train.
If you cant find a movie to quell the thirst, grab a Clive Barker book.
Imajica is a very good starter
Twisted and darkly erotic.

A bunch of work mates watched this on a night shift, part way through they switched all the lights on and were too afraid to sleep.
What about the ring.
The Omen films are not that bad. |

"The Innocents (1961) with Deborah Kerr - one of the creepiest films ever made."
A flawlessly creepy film. Some of the shots are burned in my brain, like that shot of the ghost in the reeds across the pond. |
