20 years or older, though definitions vary. The common theme is of an older car of sufficient historical interest to be collectible and worth preserving or restoring rather than scrapping |

I'm on my 4th MG MIdget 1500 rubber bumper and have a 1972 chrome bumper round wheel, arch 1275 Midget being built from the shell upwards. Had a Triumph GT6 for two years but had a whole heap of engine problems towards the end of ownership. Great weekend motoring fun and cheap to run. Money no object car would probably be an original Shelby Cobra or 60s Mustang. |

I have a mk2 golf Gti money and parts Is a huge problem with this car ... mainly a person to work on it that know what there at
I know it’s not classic yet but recently bought a mk5 golf Gti in immaculate condition which is now in storage .. for this very reason it’s a 2005 and totally original 1 previous owner and I reckon I can make money on this in years to come |

That's actually not as silly as it sounds, behind the rubber bumpers that were made 1974 onwards there was a whole heap of thick steel, I removed the front one once and I could only just manage the weight so imagine both of them off it would give better power to weight ratio so the chrome bumper cars were immediately lighter. |

Surf is having brain surgery & not mot
Terrano - well it was a Terrano...not its running gear & a cage...Fred Flintstones atm cos I haven't built the floor. |

I'd like a Rover P6, but one stripped down and given modern engineering and extras. I wouldn't want to just drive it on Summer Sundays and neither would I want driving it to be a chore |

For the ones that do own, can you break down your costs ?
From maintenance to insurance? Any websites ?
I’ve heard that you can insure the car for weekends and public holidays thus reducing the costs is that true? |

Nah, i'd have the Rover P5B Coupe with the 3.5 V8 engine. I'm at an age where I want to waft in style. Dad had one in the 70s. |

My parents had one of these when I was 11, was so comfortable. Then something broke on it and it’s still stirring in my parents garden rusting away....
Love to drive one to understand my dads love of the car... he passed over a few years back now
We wasn’t allowed to eat drink or touch the windows... dad would have banned breathing if he could! Used to get stuck to the leather seats in summer when had shorts on!
Oh the memories... |

Maintenance - well that ill depends what condition you pick it up & what you find after..for instance I've found plaster, paper, screws holding in plates, sealant holding in plates...basically bodies suffer & most folk don't weld & it's expensive if you can't & parts get scarcer every year.
Insurance yes you can do that but what if someone nicks it or damages it! Classic insurance is better, it's cheap because it's occasional use. |

Insurance with a limited mileage of say 2000 miles is under a hundred all in unless your car starts to be 10k plus but still cheap compared to these modern excuses of a car that practically drive themselves and take all the joy out of driving. If yu choose a common ish car then parts are available new off the shelf, for instance a set of brake drums, discs, shoes and pads for an MG all round would be less than £200 brand new. ther'es that many spaeres for Triumphs and MGs you could build a new car from parts off the shelf. No need to take it to a garage to plug it into a diagnostic machine, a good set of spanners and sockets and you can do everything yourself from a Haynes manual if you have just half a brain. |

It was a good car for showboating, but then the serious bit has to take over. The key to quick times on a sprint is keeping it tidy. It’s striking the balance between having a hoot and getting the result.
Did a lot of prep on motor and chassis , it was a very quick motorcar. |

I know, problem is I'm more interested in having fun than winning always been that way.
I do the same with karts, drift the corners & lose time...I typically whack out the fastest lap time though..
Does anyone remember the competition for the rx8 when it came out? Was in 2007 cos I'd only been driving 8 mths at time, mx5 of that I don't like the seat positioning.....the rx8 I loved & scared the shit out the guy tearing it round the track & figure 8 barrels...didn't win cos was having too much fun but was in top 100
As for fixing classics & keeping them running...workshop manuals (not owners manuals),YouTube & forums will become you best buddy
Typical things like brakes & suspension, engine service kits are usually easy to get, it's when you do strip downs/nut & bolt retros like I do that you may have issues....your local blacksmith can be your friend for fabrications if you can't do then yourself or find panels....I'm just stubborn, love to learn & skint so do all my own unless it needs super special equipment. |

"Nope
There is no such thing as a classic car.
If its over 5 years old its just a scrapper.
Mr M"
That's a consumerism opinion....just to make ya buy more, which uses more resources...parts use less resources, old ones recycled much better than whole car manufacturing.
Need to go back to repairing over replacing, finite resources.
Planting just 30 trees covers all of my cars co2 emissions from their birth to now..a whole life time.
Less plastic, less wiring, less electronics, less sensors, no programmed breakages right after warranty runs out...
Think I'll keep my old ones ta |

I used to build Lotus Cortina's for Goodwood etc.
You obviously know how much a race ready LC is, £60 to 70k will get you one that will be at the back of the grid, £100k to build one that could be at the front of the grid if the driver is good enough |

I put a pic of my escort RS Mexico on Facey last week and had 2 people in Ireland try buying it .
I've put my escort Cosworth on social media and had people in other countries ask to buy it .
My 1990 M5 I found out after I bought it on a M5 facey page over 100 people commented about it when it was for sale but I'd done the cardinal sin buying it which was being told the guy had a cash deposit so I offered £750 more cash and said ask your Mrs would she like £750 for a free pair of Valentino's ... That did the trick .
I've also got some really rare rally version Subaru's and a Vectra Vxr which I've had 4 of previously bought it to smoke around in as it's nice on the miles with history and they've shot up in value .
I'm looking to buy a E36 M3 saloon in a individual colour or a 80's sec coupe Merc Amg .
Like the old cars I do |

I remember clearing out my granddads garage with the old man, can’t have been more than 10 and at the back was the old Morris 7.
No one was ever allowed to touch, if you so much as dared look at it there was a newspaper with a carrot rolled up inside to give you the warning swipe Haha

My dad rebuilds classic motorbikes and cars as a hobby (I grew up with engine fumes a machinery all around me)
He hates that things like the Ford Mondeo are now classed as classics.
He prefers the more unusual, more interesting vehicles that will make someone stop and look, rather than just an old vehicle. |

I used to love the shows!
We'd used to go to ones with cars, motorbikes, tractors and steam engines.
Some even had motorbike display teams and I vaguely remember going to some with an air show too. I think that may have been the Uffington White Horse show.
Good memories |

I'd like a classic but don't have anywhere to keep one - and no way would I leave it in a lock up miles away from home
I've often been asked where I'd live if I won the lottery and the answer has always been the same - I'd build a 2 bed apartment with a 10 car carriage underneath |

I’m lucky enough to have grown up in a car family, so we always had and still have many many classics.
My earliest memory of school is actually being taken in a silver shadow then a 1970 302 boss mustang, mk1 escort the list is endless, now I have a few of my own Mk1 escort, mk3 2.8 Capri, mk2 Jaguar, mk2 Granada all kept in a lockup with a few projects.
Also if anyone’s in the market for a 1965 289 fastback mustang I have one available in a beautiful blue with white stripes and black leather imported last year from California |

I've owned many classics. However at the time I didnt know they would end up being classics. And my cars were always mint condition Or I'd have kept them and been able to buy myself a feckin house with the amount they are now worth. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Mk1 xr2, escort rs turbo (the mk1), Sierra cosworth, Porsche 944 turbo, Porsche 911, and a few more.
Gutted!!!

I've had loads. Many MK1 and Mk2 escorts, loads of old BMWs E28s, E30s, E21s, 20002s. Few old Honda and Toyotas. Defenders. List goes on and on.
I dont have anything at the moment and not sure I will. Firstly because I don't live on an old farm with loads outbuildings any more but secondly because I've no time.
That said I do wonder about the future of classic cars. With more and more younger people having zero interest in cars and with petrol engined cars inevitably becoming socially unacceptable I do wonder if their days are done.
That being said if I won the lottery tomorrow I would probably buy a Singer and possibly one of MSTs recreation MK2s but with the duratec rather than a Millington Diamond |

Would have a Daytona for Capri money if you have one
Prefer the memory of the Capri. Compared to a modern car its awful.
Nostalgia is a good thing in that you remember it as good whereas the reality is that over time progression is generally much better. |

I ran a 3500S for a while, minilites & spare wheel on the boot lid.etc. Ended up dropping a five speed SD1 box in it after the usual standard four speed issue.
I’ve had a few classics, nothing pre 65 though. If I had the money I’d have another 67 Mercedes 280SE 3.5 except I’d make it the convertible, such a classy car.
H runs a four seat convertible now but it’s a baby at seventeen years old.

"I have a 1974 Land Rover Series 3. Looks amazing after years of work. Mind you, you are never going anywhere quickly......"
I don't see many Series Land Rovers about, but we always wave to each other. Often tricked-up Disco and Defender drivers wave too. |

I’ve got a few mid to late 90’s p38 Range Rovers ( awaiting piss taking)!
Always liked them and they’re starting to rise in value as more of them get scrapped.
I’m also restoring a classic Range Rover for my mrs . And last year I got a 1987 Ford escort for my son as his first car |

20 years ago someone in the village was selling his Series I Land Rover Tickford for £3000. I thought about buying it. Two years ago, one sold for £41k...!! |

"I got a mint nova gte
And a Bentley gtc but give me the nova any day"
I worked at a vaxhaul dealership in 1979 so when the Nova came out early 80s I had the pleasure of bringing one back from a dealership near Liverpool and it is a car I would have now if I could find one, would be a great hill climb/sprint classic. |
