Cold, wet, miserable day of weather here so got a pan of Scotch Broth simmering away on the hob to have for lunch. Who else is making soup and what sort of soup are you making? Oh and it's got to be homemade.... tinned or packet stuff is cheating lol x |

I fancy simple tomato soup my Grandma makes. It's thinner than Cream of Tomato and is usually served with little pasta shapes or rice. Some dill on top.. perfect.
What's a Scotch broth? |

Oh, I haven't even made a pan of soup this year but my go to is usually chicken and lentil, or ham hock.
Glad your doing on the hob OP, a few family members have soup makers, keep telling them granny would be spinning in her grave |

Butternut Squash, Sweet Potato with red onion, chilli flakes & paprika
I blend it all up when cooked
It's lovely and silky and warming
Best served with thick cut crusty bread & butter |

What's a Scotch broth?"
Vegetable soup with barley and pulses (dried peas, yellow split peas, lentils etc) in it, usually made with lamb or beef stock, really tasty and filling especially with homemade bread slathered in butter to dunk in it. |

I can't understand why a soup maker even exists, pan and a stick blender (or even a seive, wooden spoon and a bit o elbow grease) does the job just as well and in my humble opinion better than any overpriced gadget that'll end up languishing at the back of a cupboard alongside the toastie maker, panini press, fondu set and all the other faddy gadgets the non cooks out there get conned into buying by the marketing men lol. I love soup! I tried a new one recently. Sounds odd but it was bloody lovely! Butternut squash, bacon and sweetcorn. All blended smooth. It was amazing! |

Carrot and coriander soup made last night.
1 onion fried in a little olive oil, add 2 chopped potatoes and black pepper, fry for a further 5 minutes.
Add 2 tspn of coriander powder, 1 tspn of paprika, loads of chopped carrots, loads of fresh chopped coriander, crushed coriander seed, 1 pint of chicken stock. Cook then hand blend, add more pepper and salt if needed. |

I'm not dissing the gadgets by the way, I really want a cook ninja, and dare say I'd probably make soup in that, but I do like the processes of cooking from scratch, obviously they save so much time in comparison. |

I cooked sliced mushrooms, half a red pepper and a diced celery stick in chicken stock for lunch today. Added spring onions and ginger before it is finished. Just the right stuff for filling the stomach and clearing up the mind |

Love leek and potato with parsnip and carrot I have a soup Maker gadget but I prefer just to do a big pot on the stove and bung everything in. Ole man uses the jug when he makes soup but it’s a phaff to clean . |
