How do you go to sleep?

Are you in the land of nod as soon as your head hits the pillow?

Do you toss and turn?

Do you have to sleep in a certain position to fall asleep?

Do you have any rituals you do to help you sleep?

I wish I could.

I start off on one side, go on my other side, then onto my belly.

Takes about half an hour to fall asleep

Go to bed when I'm tired, get in to bed and I'm wide awake. Wriggle all over trying to doze off, stare at the ceiling, write a shopping list in my head, check the time 1000 times. Give in and get coffee.

Yep! Mental tiredness is worse than physical I find though. I can relax and rest my body without too many problems. The off switch on my brain however, is broken

Yep! Mental tiredness is worse than physical I find though. I can relax and rest my body without too many problems. The off switch on my brain however, is broken "

I sometimes find reading before bed helps my brain switch off.

Fab doesn't count, a good book is good

I get into bed and listen to Radio 2 on a timer. I’m usually asleep before it goes off.

That said, I rarely get an undisturbed nights sleep as my kids often wake in the night and wake me up to tell me they’re awake.

Like a lot of people have said, no matter how tired I am, my head hits the pillow and my brain wakes up with all sorts of insignificant thoughts. It’s the whole “do penguins have knees?” thing.

I have tried the thunder thing and that can help sometimes, especially if it’s a far away storm, like thunder rolling across the plains sort of thing. Just anything to distract my brain from whatever random thoughts it’s having without generating new questions for it lol

I sleep quite easily at night ever since I was little.

I always put a cushion/thick pillow underneath my legs : prefer to sleep with my legs slightly raised to improve circulation back to the heart.

I love to sleep at night.

I always get stupid thoughts before I sleep.

Then I wake up the next day and make threads and comments about them here

I've seen adverts for the leg pillows etc.

But I don't think I could use one, I turn over so much it would annoy me having to keep putting it back in place

My dog constantly wakes me up, but that's because I'm such a light sleeper.

I'm so jealous of her, literally within a minute of her lying down she's asleep and dreaming immediately with her paws twitching.

I am a bad sleeper probably due to being a nightshift worker. I sit up on my days off until around 2 then force myself to sleep. Usually get about 4 or 5hrs at the most. Sleep better in the arms of a man for some reason.

I sleep on my LG side, with my hand under the pillow

I'm always waking during the night.. I find i sleep better if i don't go to sleep until 1-2 and then get up at 6am ish

I can usually fall asleep in about a minute. It's like I flick a switch. In my job it is important to sleep when you can at times.

My OH used to really struggle so I would read to her. She said the sound of my voice was soothing but perhaps she just found my books boring!

I have to sleep on the right hand side of the bed

A minimum of two pillows and firm ones at that

I need some light on in the room - I have a floor standing mirror propped against a wall. I've put an LED strip on the back of it. When they are on, they cast a, shadow of light on the wall as opposed to being direct light. That's enough.

I need some noise in the room too - low settling music, usually Smooth FM or Magic Chilled via Alexa

I go to bed before I'm tired

Settle down with my phone and usually a couple of games on Scrabble Play, til the eyelids start going

I also have a routine before bed, check both doors, check sockets are off, straighten cushions, straighten throws, pots done, wee, brush teeth

I take 3 things to bed with me - phone, keys, wallet

Always clothes on ottoman at end of bed

In case I need to get out in a hurry

Omg i am so opposite to you.. Dark room, totally quiet.. I even use earplugs if its raining! Door shut to keep furry creatures out.

I do however sleep under several quilts / blankets, regardless of time of year

When i sleep with other people I'm usually perched on the end of the bed haha... I think I've grown used to the luxury of space.. They are constantly pulling me in as i slowly migrate back out to the edge

I think maybe I'm a nightmare too

There are a lot of dependents on how I sleep.

I have found it difficult to get to sleep before midnight over the last couple of years.

Sometimes I'm awake until 3 or 4am.

Sometimes I am asleep by 1am.

Thankfully, I don't wake up every hour like I used to.

I dream every night and remember them.

I had a tape with a French man reading out a breathing exercise in English. His voice alone was so relaxing he could have been reading out the period table.

2 pillows but they have to be firm

One duvet. No blankets over me. 10 tog is fine as I get hot in bed

It takes me ages to get to sleep as I toss and turn and can sometimes take me 3 hours to get to sleep.Does not help that I have sleep apnea and have a machine Cpap.I used to have 30 episodes in a night where I stopped breathing but it is down to 9 now.

When I made this thread I didn't think about medical conditions that affects sleep also.

I'd give anything to be able to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Usually 3 or 4am. Then shattered when I get up. But then can't sleep at night, again! Viscous cycle. I catch up on sleep by staying in bed most weekend.

Similar but different, but I struggle because in many positions, my leg, hip, foot or all three go numb, get pins and needles, burn etc and so it's painful to try and sleep. I exhaust myself posting shite on here or reading till I have to sleep.

It's a hard cycle to break, especially when you have a snooze after lunch time.
