Titz Towers, North Notts |
On the telly and in not particular order:
Early Doors - far better than the Royle Family
Detectorists - simply sublime
Nightingales - totally nuts, but so well done
Live Comedy:
Scott Bennett
Simon Lomas
Any of Tom Binns' characters

Judging by quite a few of the answers above, we will never find out. Because some of them are terrible comedies
Just goes to prove that comedy is very much so very subjective and like most things there just isn't a best. Also there are just different sub genres of comedy - satire, dark, sitcom, old school, slapstick etc. Can't directly compare them.
Yeah, I'm that guy, as most should know by now |

I'll narrow it down, 99% of shows with a laugh track are terrible because the laugh track attempts to subconsciously trigger the same in the viewer. Even "filmed in front of a live studio audience" often add laugh tracks during editing.
On a personal level the only laugh track comedy I've enjoyed is Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and that is mostly due to how much heart and some of the story lines, less so about the comedy itself.
I generally prefer a more subtle comedy, less "omg wasn't that hilarious" and more grounded like Phoenix Nights (not that I'm saying that is the best). The delivery in the tone and subtext is critical, comedic timing too. |

Detectorists
What We Do In The Shadows
Thick of It
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Schitt's Creek although I'm not sure how much of a comedy it is.
(There are more but mentioned above). |

For my sons birthday we bought him a framed signed photo from Mark Heap and he cried tears of joy when he opened it. Ever so sweet... Jim is a hero in our house, and yes I get likened to Jackie..."blot it Martin, blot it!"

Oh, I’m glad someone else liked Detectorists. Another one that never gets a mention is Early Doors, it’s low key, naturalistic, bit of a slow burner. |

Dear John...was never repeated.?
I thought it was great.
It was absolutely brilliant
Very underrated " . I believe Dear John was written by John Sullivan the man who wrote Only Fool’s and Horses as well as Just Good Friends I suppose when you written two comedies like that comedy like Dear John is easily forgotten although I agree it’s a decent watch |
