"When I see “no blacks or Asians” on women’s profiles, all I think of Is ‘no blanks no Irish no dogs’. Some things never change.."

If you equate them as being anything alike, you need to sort yourself out. There’s a huge difference between equal opportunity rights within a society and who I allow to enter MY body.

Perhaps it is the way it has been phrased rather than the fact it is stating a preference?

Personally I would not make a preference re colour/ race in my profile but I understand that some people feel they need to. Maybe state it as a positive would be better? Not sure.

A preference to what you’re attracted to isn’t being racist or discriminatory, we’re talking about who people want to have sex with not whether or not they’re not being offered a job because of their ethnicity

I feel the same when I see "black men only".

Whichever way its dressed up,its still a preference on a human being over another human being purely by skin colour.

The cornerstone of racism and racists.

That is not the cornerstone of racism or racists at all.

It would be racist if said person was actively trying to discourage POC from meeting with whoever they wanted by making the site more difficult to use for them.

Stating a preference isn’t stopping anyone from different backgrounds from getting a meet.

Another example, if every profile had on it ‘no blacks’ then you could argue the site was inherently racist towards people of colour, but that is not the case.

Whilst it could be worded differently it's still their choice, as will be your own choices with others etc..

Perhaps concentrate on those who will meet rather than waste time and energy on something you can't change, indeed why would someone..

I agree with this. I think preferences can be stated in a positive way.

However if someone is openly negative that means people can avoid them and not waste any time interacting with them. That's a definite positive.

Whilst I don’t believe it is racist, anyone who feels the need to put something like that on their profile would put me off to be honest. Whether it should or not it does offend people and I just don’t see a need for it. I know what I like and don’t like but I don’t need to announce it to the world or give a reason why I don’t want to meet someone.

I think terms like 'racist' get thrown around way too easily sometimes, which takes away from the genuine issues. Expressing a preference is completely different to deliberately discriminating against people, the context is completely different. However, there are ways of expressing things and using a phrase like 'no blacks and Asians' is probably a little tactless considering the connotations it carries in a different context. It could likely be better phrased.

Some people love contrast of skin tones, the visuals of it really get them going, some people find the opposite part of the turn on, where you can't tell where one body ends and the other begins.

There always has to be an element of physical attraction and some people know that they are not attracted to certain things. I think it's a bit insensitive to openly state it a a race issue but I do see it as an acceptable preference, although it would be better unspoken. It would seem better just not to respond to people they aren't interested in.

Regarding the "No Irish, no blacks" thing, that was from people renting out rooms and such. There is an enormous difference between saying somebody would be denied the ability to have a roof over their head because of their ethnicity and somebody not wanting to have sex with somebody they are not attracted to. This is a form of undiagnosed mental illness found in today’s internet users......

Follow me for one second....

Someone goes online and finds a profile that isn’t compatible with them... Instead of moving on and finding a suitable profile.... They will engage with the unsuitable profile to start a confrontation......

In their minds they find this to be perfectly suitable behavior.....

"I think ruling out an entire ethnic group is a bit naff. It basically says no matter how good looking, sexy or compatible we are, solely because of your ethnicity it's going to be a no whatever.

"

Not really. For me i like pale skin i find milk bottles sexy. Im not into dark skin sexually, thats a preference and on that note i rule out sexual encounters with said. That includes tanned white skin.. i dont find that sexually preasing so having the preference is for personal sexual preference... it by no means means i dont like those with dark skin it just means im not sexually attracted... therefore i wont meet. - a preference

"Its just a preference"

And if so, one I find bizarre. How many people in the world are black, or asian? How can you say "No thank you" to an entire race and not have it deemed anything other than racist?

I often think its the misuse of the word preference.

When we prefer something we see it as being desirable, the first option etc.

To use it in excluding someone is incorrect and upsetting. Because people think you are making a prejudicial and discriminatory choice as your primary concern.

Mr is black, and we don't meet black guys.

Does that make us racist?

"Skin colour is the same as liking blondes over brunettes, its just what you are or not attracted to"

It is in no way the same. A person can easily change their hair colour. You are stuck with your skin colour (skin lightening treatments accepted, but you know what I mean)

If a person had seen every single person or the race they are excluding, then I might come around to thinking it was a preference. But until you've seen every single person of that colour or race how would you know? And is there something else behind the "not my type"?

Un conscious bias perhaps?

I find this statement difficult to accept.

I believe people have a right to be offended by a statement and they can chose to engage with a profile or not - that is a matter of personal background. choice, experience... whatever.

I find the statement "questioning their mental state" really quite insulting, especially against the backdrop of increasing awareness of mental health issues at a time of great demand on mental health care.

Perhaps you are right, it just struck me as at best a little insensitive to talk about mental state at a time when this is such a big issue in our society. Maybe a different phrase e.g. "question their experience/ mood/ frame of mind" would have had a better effect?

Just move on and dont get upset by it, Theres plenty of female profiles that say "Black only"do you see all the white guys getting upset?

Swings and roundabouts, everyone has preferences if it effects you i'd recommend a different site than this as, it can be quite demoralising at times, but then we never complain when the fun comes around.

At the 2011 Census, the most ethnically diverse region in Englandwas London, where 40.2% of residents identified with either the Asian, Black, Mixed or Other ethnic group. That 40.2% represents 3.26 million people.

I find it astonishing that people can state that there is no one within 3.26 million people that they find sexually attractive.

Sure, there are many profiles expressly looking for black guys, and more especially focusing on a certain physical attribute stereotypically associated with black men. Is every black man well hung? I doubt it. If hung is desired, does it matter what could it is.

So for a black gentleman to tick every box to be an ideal match for someone, only to be excluded for the colour of their skin and race, that's racism.

I presume it's cultural because Asian people are every complexion under the sun.

Nothing turns me off more than seeing it on someones profile and that's MY prefernce.

Sure, there are many profiles expressly looking for black guys, and more especially focusing on a certain physical attribute stereotypically associated with black men. Is every black man well hung? I doubt it. If hung is desired, does it matter what could it is.

yes! I've said similar before on threads - I do sometimes wish that white people wouldn't speak on my behalf on matters that don't actually bother most black people. It makes us seem petty and over-sensitive on occasion. I have much more important things to be concerned about than a preference on a swinging site.

Because preference is preference, if a profile says I don’t want or not looking for x, y & z move on.

Taking offence to such things only escalated your own judgement or hate

Whatever a persons choice is up to them, I sure as hell have mine and would be judged but it’s my choice and preference and has nothing to do with anything but attraction

End of for me

Much love xx

I agree with you even though I am not sure I am with you one the vegan analogy but hey ho.

I did not start the thread, however, responded as it was about something close to my heart.

Is this forum the right place for that debate? Perhaps you are right that it is not. But since the issue was raised, I guess I am coming from the stance that when a question is asked about something that ( in my mind) needs changing in society, then I will voice what I believe in.

Let's get back to sex

Central

We can only change ourselves by choice and influence changes outside of us. But others will retain their freedom of choice, however awful their behaviour may seem.

For here, it's helpful to filter out those who are unmatched, to focus your energy on those who you have greater prospects with together.

Thank you for your concern , you are doing God’s work by pointing out the white swingers that don’t want to have interracial sex.....

This part really bothers me. So people who chose not to have sex with a black, asian or other nationality are racist? So even though they are not racist but through their desire, preference they are to be pointed out and hung, drawn and quartered on here or even worse made to feel guilty enough to let you have sex with them? That was not a nice statement and as bad as anyone putting no black or asians on their profile. Where does this stuff end. If people are bullied in to meeting people they dont want to on here this place will end up a ghost town. I agree racisam is the worst of the worst but stating it food to point out people who are against interacial sex is just as bad and boaders on bullying sorry. We will not meet anyone we dont want to and no matter how much people keep on about it it wont happen.

I'm mixed race and I don't see it as racist. For some, maybe but I just see it as what an individual finds sexualy attractive to them. Doesn't mean they'll treat you any different.

Putting, no gay guys, on a profile doesn't necessarily mean your homophobic. Just doesn't give you a twitch in yah pants.

Now they are all subjective. You will know what pig ugly means to you, or the definition of a lanky string of piss.

To dismiss multiple millions of people on the grounds of their race though? Not a single one out of those could be attractive? A sweeping generalisation best, racism at worst.

I just (speed) read over the thread again and on balance, I think there is probably more agreement than disagreement.

The disagreement is about terminology, which for some of us is/can be loaded. For example if I saw a profile stating "No whites" it would bewilder me a bit and I would be asking why I was excluded _ased on the colour of my skin only.

If I saw a profile stating "no chubby women" I would move on to the next profile without blinking.

So I guess it really is about context, terminology and perhaps heightened sensitivity. And it is good to continue having these conversations, even if or perhaps especially when we disagree with each other.

"Does your profile which states No single.men, mean you are a Homophobe, that you hate or dislike bi/gay/whatever men. "

He is dismissing all single men, irrespective of race, creed, colour or orientation. That is a clear preference, although you could argue if were so inclined, that it is sexist.

Dismissing millions of people purely down to their skin colour or ethnicity is racist.

Being a mixed race couple at our age, we are happy to talk about the real racism that still exists, and that we have had to live with and suffer.

However we find it sad that on occasions the race card is played where there is no real need.

"One of my mates got picked on, beat up, treated shit at school by teachers all cos he was black."

All aspects of racism need to be tackled, wherever and whenever they occur, on line or in real life. We shouldn't accept it, anywhere.

Do we as humans with thoughts, feelings, experience, needs etc not have the right to be offended when we feel we are being mistreated (in the board sense of the word)?

I believe we do have a right (some argue a duty) to raise any issue which potentially threatens the principle of human equality.
