I've always been a terrible sleeper. Even as a baby. I remember as a kid just silently playing with my toys on my bedroom floor until the sun came up when I'd given up on the idea of sleeping. Some things help but to be honest I think it's always going to be somewhat a fact of life for me.

Same this past week I’ve hardly been sleeping (my Fitbit tracks my sleep) I’m lucky if I get 2 to 3 hours. I know I have been overthinking a lot a night and and I know in my case it’s because I’ve been on my own as well.

I have been exactly the same and like you have had major sleep issues since very early childhood.

I do still struggle but not as much as I used to.

Tried most things to get off to sleep, not really had any long term success. I do take tablets to try to reduce my overactive mind but they aren't working much over the past year.

Same, it's like when it takes ages for your heartrate to go down after intense excercise but with your brain working at 100mph all day then it won't calm down at the end of the day but without work stuff to occupy it, it starts thinking about 100 different possible scenarios and that embarrassing thing you said 1 time 10 years ago .

It doesn't have to be a bad day if you have an overactive mind.

It's not a stupid question but it is what it sounds like it is basically a very heavy blanket but is weighted with glass beads. They are not cheap or go there are some value ones on the market.

Google weighted blankets because if you like to sleep under a heavy do they you might find a weighted blanket very beneficial. You can't get fairly cheap ones to see if you like it. They can be a bit of an investment.

You can and you can get them fairly inexpensively but there only really effective if you get the right weight for you. So it is recommended that you have 10% of your body weight plus 3 pounds.

"Yes definitely.

Have you looked up "sleep hygiene"

There are some quite good tips and things I hadn't tied and maybe some mindfulness before bad.

I've always been a terrible sleeper. Even as a baby. I remember as a kid just silently playing with my toys on my bedroom floor until the sun came up when I'd given up on the idea of sleeping. Some things help but to be honest I think it's always going to be somewhat a fact of life for me.

I have been exactly the same and like you have had major sleep issues since very early childhood.

I thought I tried everything and nothing would help. A weighted blanket and mindfulness before bed has been a game changer.

I do still struggle but not as much as I used to.

Genuine question but is probably stupid. What's a weighted blanket?

It's not a stupid question but it is what it sounds like it is basically a very heavy blanket but is weighted with glass beads. They are not cheap or go there are some value ones on the market. :its interesting as I have to have a heavy duvet or blanket to help me sleep

Google weighted blankets because if you like to sleep under a heavy do they you might find a weighted blanket very beneficial. You can't get fairly cheap ones to see if you like it. They can be a bit of an investment.

I've heard about them, I am put off as I get so hot when I do sleep and end up kicking the covers off."

I was thinking this too. I'm currently sleeping naked with a 4 tog duvet and it's predicted snow

Today I have been working from home so I have been occupied and then I did some chores and a bit of shopping. Previously I have been on Fab forums religiously, whether posting or lurking. Today I may have been on for fifteen minutes if that. I think that restricting your mind from constant stimulation might be influential. Just an idea.

Now I feel quite sleepy and think I may be able to nod off soon. Sweet dreams all

Delightful Bliss

I listen to music in bed to transition my brain from over thinking, but if there is something on my mind I write it down and pin it up to deal with it the next day

One of the things that helped me is supplementing with Magnesium and Vitamin D, both of which can help with sleep (and other things).

I was like this and still get like it at times. I make a note of what I think about the most when trying to fall asleep and on waking. Whatever that is I then tackle that day of I can so it's eliminated from my mind and doesn't bug me. Not always able to though depending on what it is.

Okehampton

I think we all have very personal ways that help us get to sleep. For me I discovered that light played a huge part so now before I go to sleep, all the screens go off and I light a candle or two. I “rest” in bed for about 30 minutes or so, just watching the candle dance. After a while I blow the candles out (this has taken on a “nighttime ritual” thing in that when I blow the candles out my mind/body knows it’s time for sleep) and settle down for sleep. This works for me

I'm glad that works for you but my brain would eat itself just watching a candle for 30 mins .

I shouldn't have been so smug. Slept about 3-4 hours in the end.
