Sat watching Goldfinger and the scene when James has thrown Pussy Galore into the hay and dived on her has put me right off my mint Vienetta. I felt a similar annoyance when watching Diamonds Are Forever. I much prefer the newer James Bond films with Daniel Craig in. The character has more substance and storylines less cringy.

What do the good folk of fab think?

Strongly agree. Thank christ for the Bourne movies. They shook everything up. Casino Royale might be my fav of the lot.

There were cringe moments in the older ones.

But the storylines were so much better.

I'm a huge Bond fan.

I View To A Kill with Roger Moore and Christopher Walken as the perfect villain.

The theme song was epic also

Different times , different era Personally I am bored of bond as a franchise now .

There is an endearing fantasy aspect to older bonds that new ones don’t have .

There and to the left a bit

I think it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges - the originals were of their time but have become classics in their own right.

The Daniel Craig era re-vamped the franchise which had become tired and cliched (most of the post-Spy Who Loved Me films up to Casino Royale are nothing to write home about) and put a new spin on it.

I like both eras in equal measure to be honest

Titz Towers, North Notts

The books are even more dated in their attitudes and make for a very difficult read in places.

It's often forgotten but the early Bond films were relatively low budget, made to look really expensive by the production designer, Ken Adam. So the scriptwriters spent a lot more time on low tech but difficult stuff such as character, suspense etc. Many film fans including me prefer this sort of stuff: special effects date so they often look corny in a very few years.

I thought Casino Royale was a welcome return to that, taking the character and the story seriously. But though Daniel Craig is a great Bond, I feel the producers lost their way somewhat after that movie and seem to have gone for spectacle and almost unrelieved movement. As for the sexual politics, that doesn't seem to have changed much, though I don't remember Sean Connery stripping off his clothes on the way to the bedroom, fully expecting a young woman to follow him without discussion.
