From the land of haribos.

I am following greg doucette and on his latest video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=80emzW0VBY8 he is talking about it and it was interesting.

I am a mindful eater. I just couldnt eat wihout knowing how much I am eating and if I didnt know how much calories. I would eat a small portion of it and if we had a party I would be mindful how much I would have and have little of everything

I’m pretty gung ho with my eating. I eat what I want, when I want. Mostly healthy, but my portion sizes are way off.

I used to be a snacker also but I’ve lost interest in chocolate etc this past year.

If I denied myself something or limited it, I know I would want it more, so it would be self defeating.

I did keto in the summer and learned to be more intuitive about what I ate and when to stop. I never calorie count, but I no longer mindlessly eat crap just because it's there.

I'm completely aware that my portion sizes are way off

I try to eat wholefoods and rarely buy crap - I just eat too much of it.

And I love wine

Far too much wine.

I think I'd rather be fat than give up wine

Between Chichester and Havant

Just eat and drink what I want until I stop feeling hungry.

I don't drink a lot of alcohol though and notice I feel sluggish after eating richer foods over Christmas for example. Generally I'd like to think my food is quite well balanced with vegetables and home cooked. I'm far from fat, although tend to put weight on this time of year, but my work generally keeps me active which helps.

"

Oh he wasn't awful

He just made meal prep and eating out a nightmare to the degree it became tiresome

Just chill out for 5 minutes

Relax

Not everything needs analysing and then re-analysing

He was so obsessive, we once fell out cos I suggested he had a mental illness

That was mean of me, but he just wore me down to the point of frustration

I find it amusing that humanity tends to suggest a mindful eater should labelled

Tedious with a psychological illness

Yet a person hinting they could be addicted to a legal drug "I could not give up wine" gets the thumbs up

That sounds exhausting

A mate of mines partner was a body builder and they never went out for dinner and they had separate food at home etc ..

According to him food was for function not for pleasure.

It used to wear her down.

It wasn't just the food issue- everything revolved around his physique.

I can't speak for others, but his was just all about his body and how he looked, nothing to do with family health issues

Holidays were booked around gyms in the town which would again be analysed for weeks before we could book a hotel

If eating out, we could look at 7-10 menus and there was nothing on them he wanted to eat

He would only drink bottled water or black coffee, nothing else

It got to the stage that the only place we could eat, without an argument, was Nandos - grilled chicken & salad without dressing was safe

Oh, and the only time in 7 years I saw him 'let his hair down' was tuna & olive pizza WITHOUT cheese

To top it all off he was one of those hangry types so was a complete cunt if he got hungry, but still wouldn't compromise on where and what he ate, so just got hangrier and hangrier til we found somewhere

This behaviour got worse over time, like an obsession he couldn't let go of

It was the main reason we parted ways

My take on keto is really it's both needless potentially counterproductive and a dramatic omission of imprtatant nutrients and fiber for any person wanting health and to reduce body fat down to 10 12 percent

If the devil catches your mind and one wants to dip sub 8 percent keto may for a short period be necessary however only imo with a full understanding of the implications

I lost weight very quickly because it's easy to underestimate how much fat you actually need to consume. I didn't do it for weight loss but for IBS and food intolerances, the weight loss was a happy bonus. Once I was content with my weight I added beans, pulses, fruit and root veg back into my diet so I'm not technically on keto anymore, just no starch or sugar. I've never felt better, much more energised and clear-headed, no anxiety, no bloatedness. I even stopped farting! I ate lots of chocolate over Christmas and felt terrible, so I'm back to low-carbing again.

I'm aware when I've had a high calorie day, or when I need to cut back the portions or treats.

That or I'll do some extra phys.

I used to use My Fitness Pal, that was really useful to then have a rough idea of calorie intake. Can't be bothered to weigh and log every meal everyday though

Apart from xmas some times I eat a sprout

I dont always drink exactly the amount I want as a weak minded human I'm susceptible to peer pressure when intoxicated x

I count macros to help keep me accountable and meet my goals. It's just a habit now. It allows me to fit in the things I want to eat without compromising weight loss/muscle gain.

Beef goulash with added bell peppers and chilli lots of garlic, quinoa, buckwheat, cauliflower black pudding olive oil and egg

Gosh I'm tedious

Do you have a goal or is this a lifestyle thing?

Do you eat out?

How do you manage it if you do eat out?

Contrary to what I said up there, I am mindful of what I eat - I need to as I am diabetic

I am not, however, scientific about it

I just know what's good and what's bad and try to balance both out

The guy I was talking about earlier just never gave himself a break. He was on top of everything 24/7

So, I guess there are varying levels of awareness / mindfulness?

For example

What I wanted tonight was 640 calories

Beef goulash with added bell peppers and chilli lots of garlic, quinoa, buckwheat, cauliflower black pudding olive oil and egg

40 carbs 45 protein 34 fat 5 g saturated

Gosh I'm tedious

Do you have a goal or is this a lifestyle thing?

Do you eat out?

How do you manage it if you do eat out?

Contrary to what I said up there, I am mindful of what I eat - I need to as I am diabetic

I am not, however, scientific about it

I just know what's good and what's bad and try to balance both out

The guy I was talking about earlier just never gave himself a break. He was on top of everything 24/7

So, I guess there are varying levels of awareness / mindfulness? "

Mainly lifestyle punctuated with goals

I can eat anywhere . I generally prefer to cook my own food as it's usually more tasty, fresh, cheaper, contains less colourings, salt, msg, sugar burned hydrogenated oils and and obviously nutrients than out

But honestly my beef burgers in a sourdough bun with my habanero chilli sauce pretty much blows any commercially bought burger out the water on all counts flavour and health

I’m more of a relentless eater than mindful or intuitive

Mindful of what my body needs and how much but I never look at calories anymore. If you fast and go past hunger you start to taste and identify things more like sugar, starch, citric acid, protein, fibre also closing your eyes when eating. Let your body decide what you shop for and cook, don’t be tricked by an appetite fighting boredom and unhappiness !
