Hi ladies ,

I'm nearing 53 and so far show no signs of being premenopausal etc. Still have painful heavy periods etc had a endometrial ablation a few years back which did nothing to help and now doctors have more or less said ive just got to put up with it . Which is fine but im just hoping menopause starts quite soon ( although i know that has its own problems).sorry for long winded post just wondered around what age most of you saw some signs and what the latest age has been so far.

Many thanks in advance,Kelly.xx

Some people don't get symptoms other than periods stopping.

Yep, she still gets light ones every 2-3 months but the gap is getting bigger. We are thankful we don’t suffer any monthly side effects

Rule of thumb Kelly is that you will follow a similar time line to your mum - when did she start menopause?

Hot flushes are very common.

i know a few close friends had no symptoms other than period stopping.

Be thankful you arent getting hot flushes or symptoms.

I am 57 and not completely been through the menopause yet. Heavy periods can be common in the years before periods finally stop. I have had very heavy periods starting at 47 but only have periods every six months or so now.

At 41 I had a hysterectomy but retained my ovaries, I was told I would go into menopause about 4 or 5 years early.

I started getting symptoms of menopause about 2 years ago and for the past 4 months I have been on HRT gel which I apply to my inner thighs each night.

I feel so much better since start HRT.

Middle 40’s the perimenopause started with erratic periods, having been regular as clockwork before. Hot flushes, brain fog, difficulty in shifting any excess poundage the worst symptoms.

Have now been 2 yrs period free, and apart from a few flushes here and there......woohoo!

Still have brain fog tho........

Taking up serious exercise has helped me no end

I’m peri-menopausal now. I have a mirena, didn’t used to get periods but they have started to return in quite an erratic way.

I get night sweats but no hot flushes, but the the brain fog and extreme emotions are v real!

My Mum was the same and was on hrt from age 42 but it’s been a real battle for me to get it. Still trying but practically impossible atm with all that is going on.

I'm still peri at 49 eight years now. Hot flushes and sweats are awful but it's my skin that has suffered the most.

Seven months since my last period so fingers crossed.

Not everyone skips periods, some become regular and heavy. Have you looked at any menopause websites, they will list symptoms?

It’s a real battle as drs insist on hormone level tests but with peri your hormones are all over the shop & can show a different level everyday!

If I don’t get it soon I will go to a private menopause clinic.

it’s only really this past year that my periods have been affected, but I’ve had terrible mood swings for a good few years. My mum had her menopause early ish (mid to late 40’s) so I guess I’m following suit.

My skin and hair are dry, although since I’ve started using Jojoba oil on my skin it has improved.

I hope so too - I can't wait to not be ruled by hormones!

I'm an actual lunatic sometimes the week before my period - not being at work since June has actually been a blessing in disguise - I feel a lot less insane away from most people

I think I was 51. I'd had an abalation so my periods were next to nothing anyway. I'd been having at least six hormone related migraines a month that suddenly reduced one month then stopped. I put this down to hormone changes and the start of peri. I don't get hot flushes, but do have brain fog and aching joints. Earliest I will hit menopause is October when I'll be 55'

I started mine at 45 and my Mum had an early one too.

Lasted about 8 years with the brain fog and being over emotional and putting weight on.

Glad I got it out the way though as it has allowed me to concentrate on a renewed sex life since.

Started mine at 47 and I’m now 54.

I’ve never consulted a doctor.

I get hot flushes, brain fog now and terrible sad emotions but that’s all.

Not had a period since October 2018 which is the best part of it.

Good luck it’s a journey.

I believe you can purchase a test from Boots online to test if it's imminent.

My periods stopped 2.5 years ago and I was told that I had almost certainly had my menopause. Then in October last year I had to have a large loop excision.(moderate risk of cervical cancer) and since then I've had the worst and heaviest periods ever.

So obviously not post menopause

I hit menopause at 59 but was postmenopausal from around 48.

I still get crushing hot flushes (not had a full nights sleep for around 5 years) and something that's not often duscussed; pseudo panic. They are slowly becoming rarer but they are frightening if you don't know why and when.

I get full blown racing heart, fight or flight response, rapid breathing, fear response and the exhausting comedown afterwards. My brain is like "eh? What happened? Get a grip woman, it's not real"

My periods stopped 2.5 years ago and I was told that I had almost certainly had my menopause. Then in October last year I had to have a large loop excision.(moderate risk of cervical cancer) and since then I've had the worst and heaviest periods ever.

So obviously not post menopause aww bless you ,not good hope your ok and not at risk of cancer now .x

Thank you. Next colposcopy in April. Fingers crossed x"

keeping everything crossed for you x

"If it weren't for the fact period's stopped, I'd not have known. No other indication at all so maybe you'll be same, I really feel for women who have a difficult time like we don't have enough to deal with lol but it's not everyone who will "

I've had hot flushes for the last 19 years. My mum went through menopause without a problem at 56. Somehow I think mine will be a lot earlier than hers.

I actually don't remember tbh. Maybe bout 50 but honestly it was so gradual it was ages before I realised I'd had no period in a while, I know that sounds crazy but it's fact.

"My mum was 40 and my sister started last year at 43. I'm 41 on Friday and no sighn yet. good luck x"

I've got pcos and endometriosis, I'm one of the lucky ones as picked up when i was just 14, my gyno saw me all the way thro till my late 20's and when it came to wanting kids it saved a lot of time as he alresdy knew the back ground and issues, so althiugh wasnt easy I was blessed with my 2. But know honestly the sooner it does happen, the better for me as they can still be horrendous! But reading some of the comments here and others symptoms I'm thinking I'm may go get thst over counter tat some one mentioned lol

Delightful Bliss

I was diagnosed as peri at 41, I had a mirena coil fitted at the same time so no periods anyway and with taking a generic daily supplement and the only symptoms I have are dry skin and hair, If I don't take the supplement then I have hot flushes only in my feet

Have you thought about the mini pill? I had two ablations then went onto the mini and haven’t had a period for years

Hoping I’ll sail through the memo whilst I’m on the tablets

Thinking more about this, I get panic attacks and phobias since starting menopause and they are horrible. Motorways for example. I drove on them but now too scared to.

I’ve been going through it for about 3 years now, the night sweats were the worst. I’m on hrt now and that helps, but I still have regular monthly periods , apparently I still have eggs so no sign of them stopping. X

little house on the praire

I was at my peak of menapaue when i turned 50. Ive not had periods for 23 years due to marina coil but had all the other symptoms.

My mum was 40 and her periods just stopped one day and she never had another symptom. I suffered quite badly
