"Today is day one for me too. I'd been using my cross trainer as a clothes horse and my weights as door stops. I will find out when I get up how much weight I've put on. My aim is 10kg a month. I've found if I look at the total I need to lose it becomes daunting, but breaking it down in small chunks works. The struggle is real: good luck everyone. " Thats a good idea to break it down into smaller amount ![]()

"I need to shift about 8kg. I can do this by following Weight Watchers, drinking more water and walking 10,000 steps per day. The only thing that gets in the way is self motivation to stick to my points. I lost 1.5 stone in 3 months on this a couple of years ago so i have done it before so no reason why i can't do it again. Wish me luck!" Im sure you can do it ![]() ![]()

"Good luck. Hope you succeed ![]() ![]() Sorry to hear that exercise is painful but the fact that you are overcoming barriers is a big step, just don't do more damage or cause more pain. Look for the little victories. You may walk a little bit further or do the same distance in a quicker time. That's progress and it should be celebrated. Sign up to an app (e.g. STRAVA) so that you can see other things like elevation gain too. There are also challenges like number of hours active in a month or cover a certain distance. The rewards, although virtual, may also be a nice little boost for you. I got a badge yesterday for doing 4.5 hours activity within the first 2 weeks of Jan. Doesn't matter how slow or fast you're going, the fact that you're doing something for 4.5 hours is the goal ![]()

"I lost a lot of weight and got really fit till October last year then a back injury has meant hardly any exercise in 3 months. Along with an ankle niggle I started yesterday On week 3 of couch to 5km. I will be honest i could run a 5km in about 28 mins but 25 mins of mixed walking and running and I was fucked. It just shows how unfit I have become. Which is disappointing. I do need some new scales. Today I am going for a 5km walk, around my local area when it lightens up. I may invite my dad to walk with me though not sure if he will be able to keep up. He is due for a heart op so needs to improve his fitness For me yes I need to loose weight but I do need to get fit. The weight tends to come off with fitness " Hi I think il aim for weight loss most and hope that more fitness follows ![]()

"I lost quite a bit of weight during the first lockdown. I do intermittent fasting so I tend to have brunch (eggs are your friend) between 12-1 and then my evening meal about 6/7pm. But nothing after. But I am aware this is not suitable for everyone but it suits me. If I snack it’s on fruit or small amounts of cheese or nuts. I don’t tend to worry about calorie counting but I keep portion sizes smaller than I used to.if I want carbs I eat carbs but I also eat lots of veg, same goes for treats if I want crisps or chocolate I give myself permission but only have a small amount. For me denying myself a variety of foods just makes me crave them more. Allowing myself the option/choice often means I’m more inclined to choose heathy 8o-90% of the time. I walk lots & do weights but If walking is a struggle can you maybe do some gentle yoga exercises? More importantly if you have a bad day and overindulge don’t let it derail you, draw a line under it and get back on it the next day!" Thank you, very good advice. I have found if i deny any foods then i crave them and eventually eat loads of them (chocolate mostly) so im going to just eat less and try to make more healthy choices. I love veg which helps ![]()

"Good luck. Hope you succeed ![]() This All the different fad diets do is create a calorie deficit but it may not be long term. Look to make sustainable, permanent changes to your diet and lifestyle. For me, cutting out bread and carbs would not be a sustainable option... Tracking what you put in your body with a diary can be really helpful (and a tad revealing...I had to say hello to emotional eating...). Also, if you have a menstrual cycle, understand it and track where you are as that will have different effects at certain stages and you can factor in extra calories (from healthier sources) and not beat yourself up if it feels like things are going down the drain. Good luck! X

"Diets in the usual sense are all good for crash weight loss but not really sustainable in the long term. I’d start by logging your food and drink intake for a few days or a week at current routine also looking at when you are consuming calories. That will then show where issues lie, there are a number of apps that you can scan packaging into or search for common things and then create meals etc. It can be quite surprising how calories mount up in some meals and barely in others. Tweak your meals so they are healthier but just as easy and fulfilling to make and consume. My mum is a regular one week dieter, she starts boiling cabbage and all sorts for a week then after a week it’s too much effort and she wants a bottle of wine and a packet of crisps at night then the diet is out of the window. There’s also evidence for narrowing the window that you eat within, if you can try and consume the calories with 8-10 hours then outside of that only water or black coffee. It can be extended to 12 hours if that’s easier but the effect is reduced. If you can hold off for a few hours in the morning it can make it workable to maybe 7-8pm, plus your body adapts to the later start. Another important factor is getting a full amount of sleep 8-10 hours, that sets your body up properly but also less awake time to be feeling hungry. Sorry to hear exercise is painful and that is going to hinder you a little but as you’re aware and others have said, activity is better than no activity so just keep motivated and don’t feel you need to break yourself, gentle progress and lifestyle changes will have the most sustainable results. Good luck ![]() Thank you thats very informative and encouraging. Im going to take small steps at first with food and build up my walks ![]()

"What sort of things should be in the losing weight buddy club? ..no snacks? Don't let food rule your life?..any other tips or thoughts? ![]() Snack, definitely snack. If you pile all your intake into three meals then you are more susceptible to grazing/cheating at different points in the day. Eat 5 times a day but break it down into manageable chunks. Eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacking halfway between each one. It won't work for everyone but I eat at 8, 10.30, 1, 3.30 and 6. Research and find healthier alternatives. I've struggled with eating enough and my goal for this year is to make sure I sufficiently fuel my body. Yesterday I was able to eat 5 pancakes, 5! Because they were made out of crushed banana and egg rather than flour etc they are considered healthy and also count as reduced carbs too. So I was able to eat all of it and not feel guilty at the end of it. ![]()

After a while you'll know off by heart exactly what foods you should be eating to keep you feeling full which aren't calorie packed. Thick Carrot & Coriander soup or mixed bean ones are good - Snack on celery, carrots, cucumber - And obviously exercise more(ground breaking news eh? ![]() ![]() Deffo agree with the soups. "Day 3 for me. I was working out in the gym 4-5 times a week pre-covid. Throughout the lockdown I've worked. But the lack of exercise has had an affect. I'm going through the menopause too which has changed my body shape. And then in October I contracted covid-19. The fatigue was ridiculous. I was then diagnosed with long covid! So hear I am....back to square one. I'm counting my macros: proteins, carbohydrates and fats. I've started doing a walk every other day with some push ups, sit ups, squats and planks in the hope of working up to starting the couch to 5k in a week or so. I'm trying not to do too much too soon and burn myself out. Wish me luck ![]() ![]() Good luck ![]()

"I'm overweight and trying to do something about it too. She says eating the last of the After Eights for breakfast. I have limited mobility due to disability. I struggle to have the strength to cook every day. Over the last few years, I have realised these facts - * If you're weighing yourself, do it at the same time every week wearing the same clothing, or none. * You will get the odd week when you don't lose any or you put a little on despite eating properly. This is normal. You could be losing inches or your hormones could be taking over that week. * Don't compare yourself to anyone else. You can be the same height, weight and size as someone else, yet have a completely different body shape. * I celebrate clothing fitting better or getting looser more than each pound I lose. * If you don't eat regularly, your body is likely to store the food because it never knows how long it's got to go before getting more. This is my biggest problem. * Try and eat 3 proper meals each day. Eggs or porridge will keep you fuller for longer. * Controlled diets work for some, not for others. I call what I'm doing "eating properly". E.g. if I'm craving chocolate, biscuits or a pizza, I'll have some, but not too much. If I don't, I'll stuff my face with them a few days later. "Best recommendation I can make is to make small, manageable changes. If you make huge changes, they’re likely to be unsustainable and you’ll fall off the wagon. Use SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound). You’ve got this! Feel free to message me if you want a sounding board! " Thank you ![]()

"Another vote for using MyFitnessPal here. Don't even need the premium paid account to see the benefit. After a while you'll know off by heart exactly what foods you should be eating to keep you feeling full which aren't calorie packed. Personally I find the following helps.... - Cut out bread (really hard for me as I love it!) - Make homemade soups. Thick Carrot & Coriander soup or mixed bean ones are good - Snack on celery, carrots, cucumber - And obviously exercise more(ground breaking news eh? ![]() ![]() Thank you, good info there ![]()

"I'd quite like to lose 6-8lbs. The couple I've put on over Christmas and a few more. I'll be going back to a variation of 5:2 where two days a week I only eat dinner. I've found it to be the only thing that works for me now that I'm close to my target weight. It was much easier when I had stones to lose. " ![]()

"Good luck, I hope you get to where you wanna be beautiful. I’ve been similar I’ve put on a stone or soo after being on steroids for 6 months and can’t exercise how I’d like due to the after effects of an injury. I have found walking to be amazing exercise and also great for my general well being. Doing what you can without over doing is hard but so worth it. Low carb and intermittent fasting I also found to be a great help. It’s hard for the first few days but gets much easier as you go. "My fitness pal is a good app to track what you eat. I never bother entering any exercise I do on it cos it gives you more available calories for the day, I just stick to the 1,200 (that’s when I’m eating well, I’m not atm) Biggest tip is don’t drink your calories, so just drink water instead of pop or fruit juice. My omelette machine is my best friend when I want to shift lbs. I’ll eat an omelette every day with various fillings. Swap pasta and rice, chips for cauliflower rice. Stir fry’s are good, if you can eat sesame oil I’d use that in a stir fry cos it takes like Chinese food! " Good info annie ![]()

"Good luck with it. I lost loads last year mainly due to portion control. I used to eat loads at each meal (finishing off my kids food as I hate waste), but limited that, and started to drink more water and that seems to have had the biggest effect. On top of that I stopped drinking cola. I'd moved to sugar free the year before thinking that would help, but it didn't have much affect. Then just to help tighten things up a bit I started doing a YouTube Yoga exercise for burning belly fat. It was hard to start with, but much more enjoyable than the gym (for me). " Good ideas ![]()

"Slightly different viewpoint is the nutritional density of the food choices you make. Radical thoughts in the early stages are not always about removing everything from your cupboards and calling it a diet. It's making a choice for life by adding in the healthy food choices gradually the trade longterm is more likely to be successful. Blueberries, walnuts, oat rolled porridge. Switching processed sugars for naturally occurring ones and reducing your salt intake. The steps are fantastic but if you suffer chronic pain don't immediately worry about 10000. Can you achieve 1000. Have a clear start marker and you can always build on your success from there. Ultimately find one good thing each day that you achieved and build on it for the next. Pinterest shows some great options and variety in meals, some even tasty meat free options for some days. Losing a lot of weight really fast can be achieved but changing food and life habits is where your big wins will come from. Filling and replacing and fst with muscle will ultimately increase your metabolism and fat burning capabilities. Home own body circuits are a great place to start adapting them to the most suitable start point for yourself. Good luck everyone. Keep working on yourself each and every day and most importantly love yourselves in the process.x " Good info, thank you x

"You’ve mentioned about it being painful, not comfortable etc and your current weight making things difficult... well guess what, you’re at the hardest stage of the whole process, starting! Get through the first week, try your absolute hardest in week one (no giving up without finishing what you set out to do in that session/walk/exercise) You’ll see amazing results straight away within a few weeks, and everything you do will seem so much easier after a while! If you stick at it for a while your results will slow down and might even plateau, I would say the best thing to do is change up your exercises (your body is just getting used to doing the same ones) Like someone else has said, work in a calorie deficit, and I would say just eat the foods that are obviously healthy to get you started, you can research the best foods to eat for losing weight, how many of each macronutrient (carbs protein and fats) etc once you’re comfortable with your new lifestyle. I recommend the myfitnesspal app to help with tracking calorie intake. Hope this helps!" Hi thank you. Im just going to eat better and walk a bit. Im not counting calories, id soon give up doing that. I walked just over a mile today, its not my weight that causes the pain though, i have an autoimmune disease that causes the pain. Or you can line a pan with non-stick foil and do it on that. You need a little fat in your diet. I don't often put butter on bread or toast and if I have scrambled eggs, beans or soup, I'll have dry Ryvita. A little butter to cook eggs is allowed.
