"I’d remove tax on clothes and food, as we have to eat and wear clothes."
Eat less and shrink into childrens clothes
There's no VAT on them
It's a win, win ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I’d remove inheritance tax and stamp duty on houses after their initial sale.
Fair enough paying stamp duty the first time a house is sold but charging it every time the house is sold seems unreasonable.
We pay tax on our earnings, tax on our purchases, tax on our savings etc. For our loved ones to then pay tax on our estate when we leave it to them after we die seems very unfair.

"as VAT is a European tax we should not have to pay it now, but I expect somewhere in the small print of the deal that Boris does not read the EU still takes its cut "
VAT replaced the 55% purchase tax. If we get that back you can pay my share.
Thanks |

Why didn't the government seize the opportunity to make sanitary products free instead of just removing 5% vat?
they'll probably just waste more hundreds of millions re-naming it back to its pre 1973 moniker "Purchase Tax".
for starters i'd remove vat on power, green building materials, musical instruments, domestic renewable energy generation installations, mobility aids, maternity pads, bicycles and bicycle parts |

Things are not "FREE" for sanitary products to be supplied for free, they would have to be paid for by the tax payer. |

Also if you’re going to make sanitary products free, then you would have to make toilet roll free. |

I have no problem with the concept, but I do have an issue with tax-payers money being used to generate profits for private companies. Maybe the government should build a factory and make national sanitary products? |

Let’s make toilet roll free, then soap, food, what about food, I mean I don’t wanna have to eat it cause it costs me a fortune, but then if I don’t I feel weak, it’s all so unfair. |

i didn't imply that .... but if i had to voice a preference it would be to lift the burden from women and make sanitary products free rather than reinforce this chumocracy with tax payers money.

Why do so many assume that if things are free that everyone will stop buying them?! The free sanitary products will almost always be used by women that cannot afford them or are caught short. Condoms are free but there are still plenty of people that pay for them, what's the difference? Apart from most women will NEED sanitary products for a fair bit of their lifetime, regardless. |

Tax on pensions.
Anyone who has paid taxes their whole life and put away for the future, helping to contribute to helping others should be able to retire without paying tax in my opinion. Dues have been paid enough |

Don't agree with this but see your point.
I believe if someone works hard and is able to retire early, this shouldn't matter. They've inevitably paid more in taxes anyway to account for the losses further down the line |

i disagree .... it's a mater of productivity. if retirement age is set then contribution should be paid into society until then. this won't stop early retirement and is the fairest method. |

Ok we talking VAT OR Duty..... as they are what people call TAXES.
VAT will be refunded by HMRC if there is a VAT No.
The Duty is paid and thats thats |

Crowing about this being a benefit of leaving the EU is disingenuous at best.
The Tory government voted against removing the tax a few years ago which makes a mockery of people trying to make out this is a demonstration of the loosening of EU “shackles”. |

Exactly this and I would still pay for mine regardless of whether I get it free because I would feel like I was taking them away from someone else who needed them, supplies won't be unlimited, someone would go without

VAT has nothing to do with the EU and VAT is not duty it is just VAT. So it is incorrect to call it a 'tampon tax'. And if that no longer requires VAT then why not men's razors? |

"Inheritance tax
The amount needed to be inherited to pay it is rarely reached by most people "
If you leave assests (including a home) valued at over £320,000 you are liable for inheritance tax. One half of a married couple can pass to the other without tax but when someone who is widowed dies their children will be taxed. With property prices it is very easy for a house to be worth over £320k. |
