You need to put it on a diagnostic test as can be the injector itself. If as you say feels like on 3 cylinders that’s normally the issue. The glow plug itself is only needed from cold to heat the initial diesel injection |

Not a mechanic but a mate had similar issue.
Get someone to run a diagnostic code reader on it which should tell you what has caused the issue, not worth the risk of assuming it's just the glow plug |

Glow plugs are used for more than just cold start. Just because a glow plug heating light isn't on doesn't mean the glow plug is doing nothing.
Used especially more with later stricter emission engines. |

Not strictly true
It used to be only a pre heater however they remain on after start to improve emissions
That said a diagnostic test is the correct option beyond that is speculation
Throwing pure speculation out there
A glow plug should not result in limp mode
The glow plug lamp has been used by many manufactures to simply indicate a fault code is set along with the mil
Last time I saw it it was egr valve however dpf issues will also lead to limp
As I said pure if , speculation and I detest speculation
The question I'd ask
Did the poor running happen before limp or does it feel like 3 after the light illuminated and reduced power mode activated
Also does a reboot reset (ignition off) |

Definitely won't be glow plugs, as they only come on for a few seconds when starting a cold engine.
It needs a diagnostic test to find the error code. It could be an injector failure, blocked air filter, blocked fuel filter, EGR Valve, turbo fault, or anything in-between. |

"I’ve just Googled VW in limp mode . Got an Australian fella taking what sounded like rocket science, to conclude not got a clue . Sorry "
Thanks shame you don't know you would be a good looking mechanic |

I guessed that and had only done 100 yards or so so might not have been hot |

My mate got away with it by going through the glow plug warming up cycle 4 times when it was really cold
*disclaimer as I've no idea if that caused further damage later on |

Seems ok pulling out of store then would not pick up.
Light on and slow and as if it was missing. Light on not flashing
Pulled in stoped key out. Count to 10 and the same when it startet.
Will call the garage in the morning or role it down the road and call the AA out

If its running on three cylinders and in limp mode sounds like an injector fault. Probably start by wiggling all the connections to the injectors or disconnect and reconnect and see if any change. Don't do this with the ignition on. If no change then could be wiring fault or injector itself. But like most said on here code reader required. If you were close to me I could have checked it for you |

Join a VW forum and ask someone who has VAGCOM (VW specific code scanning to software) to scan it for you, I'd offer but you're miles away. Could be a number of things depending on the year. Failing the VAGCOM get to argos or Halfrauds, ebay, Amazon and get a code reader, cheap enough and worth their weight in gold. |
