Being born in Melton Mowbray i was weened on the famous pork pies and stilton cheese. Now i live in oakham i guess where famous for being the market town of smallest county in england and our horseshoes

At one point in time it was voted the dirtiest village in the UK

We are also famous for Jackie and Bobby Charlton, Jackie Milburn, Paul Harmeston and we were once the biggest coal mining village in the UK.

Sir John Hall was born, and lived in the next street from where we live now

We also boasted the most working mens clubs in 1 town. 28 I think at one time and only 3 free houses ..

A game resembling rugby was once played here. The two sides were unlimited in number, representing the east and west of the town. The goals were the 2 bridges on the Pipp Brooke. The Town crier kicked off the ball at 2 o' clock and stopped play at 6 o'clock. The game was started at the Church gates and was "rioted" up and down the High Street. It was ceased in 1897 after complaints by tradesmen and it was officially stopped under section 72 of the Highway Act 1835.
