I’m really interested in words. The power they have. The things you can do with them. The things they can do back to you.
In my time on Fab, I’ve observed that the words people use one here don’t always carry the same meaning they do in the outside world.
Take the word “discreet”, for example. I used to tell people I was discreet. I always meant “I don’t finish up and then immediately give your real name and a blow-by-blow account of our fun to everyone in the pub.”
I quickly learned that on Fab, “discreet” is considered to mean “I am married and cheating.”
I now avoid the word “discreet” to avoid confusion. (I also avoid the word “discrete”, because too few people know it’s a... well, *discrete* word, with a separate meaning of its own.)
What other words have you noticed have a different meaning on Fab? Here are a few more to start off:
Nine inches = Six inches, if you’re very lucky
Perfect gentleman = MRA / PUA / MGTOW / incel
Sydney University = Yes, I will totally buy that bridge you’re selling

I do appreciate what you're getting at, but there are circumstances under which genuine discretion would be better.
I was once out with a group of my kink acquaintances, and we passed a separate kink acquaintance of ours in the street. We all went "Hi there!" on our way by... only to realise later that we'd just put them in a position of having to come up with an explanation *to their mum* of how they knew that random knot of friendly weirdos. Oops.

Discreet can mean many things
I prefer discretion. Play on the word but means yes if we walk by each other then say hello but also means you don’t shout something out about what we did or didn’t do and talk about it when I’m with anyone else, that doesn’t mean a partner, could even mean my mates.

The fun of fab (or perhaps our kink) is knowing you do the deed and yet all still appear to others to be polite strangers. So "privacy" rather than discretion.
We dislike words like "plough" and "pound" and "ruin", not because of the thought but because it often means that's the only 'skill' they have...  |

Call us naive, but the words we use mean just that, as honesty is a core value for us. However understand that they can be distorted on here to have other meanings. The context and communication is an important factor in helping us decipher. |

I think he is saying that when you see perfect gentleman it really means they hate women. All those movements are misogynistic. Not sure i totally agree but he had a point in some cases. They are often people who don't see women as equals. |

They are an on line group of men who would like a sexual/ romantic partner but are unable to find one. They blame everyone but themselves and are often racist, misogynistic and sometimes advocate violence against those who are sexually active. The other acronyms are often associated with them. |

The incel movement is angry men who feel they have the right to sex and women are b*tches for refusing them. There was a shooting in the usa by an incel. Men going their own way are men who refuse to date because again women are impossible. It is all risible. |

If you are still not aware of the threat posed by incels, MRAs, PUAs, MGTOWs and other "manospherians", I recommend the blog We Hunted The Mammoth, which has been tracking and mocking their movement for a number of years now.
It is an increasingly radical misogynistic hate movement that functions as a pipeline into the far right. They are already violent; there have already been a number of misogynistic spree killings, and there will be more.
Simply not having sex for a while does not make one an incel. Turning your sexlessness into an identity, wallowing in your grievance, and setting out on the path to taking it out on others is what makes someone an incel. |

With all due respect, nobody was going to look at the group of us and think we were people that our aquaintance worked with.
It doesn't matter whether there's an "easy" solution or not. We still put our friend in a position of stress and discomfort through our thoughtless indiscretion, and we're all determined to do better in future.

I once was out on a dog walk and recognised a guy who passed me walking his dog.
I said hello and smiled. I saw him in the distance a second time in the same walk, and when he saw me, he turned on his heels and almost ran

Roosh Valizadeh, who for many years was the biggest name in PUA, wrote a series of how-to guides that contained in-his-own words descriptions of what any reasonable person would consider to be r*pe. He was banned from various countries at one point.

MRA's have nothing to do with the rest of them, MRA's came about to expose the onesidedness of the results of divorce and separation on men in the US (not just there) and to question why there are many institutions set up to help women and girls when they start to spiral for whatever reason but not for boys and men.
