I had this from eating kfc (other chicken shops are available) a couple of weeks ago
If you have a ginger or peppermint tea that works. Or stand up straight and walk, really concentrate on walking stood up as straight as you can, head held high |

"to much rich food any home remedies till the shop opens "
It's always the food during holiday season that gets you isn't it?
As someone often afflicted by heartburn I find myself often reaching for the remedies. In their absence though I invariably reach for milk or something similar. Never tried ice cream though curious now if that might help. |

Milk can increase production of acid so not always the best - same for mint in herbal teas.but affects people in different ways
There's a lot of differences in opinions in whats best to drink during an attack but plain old water will help ! |

If you have any kids - a bit of plain chalk will do - Calcium carbonate will neutralise the acid that causes the burning. Look at physical posture which can exacerbate heartburn. Avoid laying down. If sitting, don't slouch (which can press the stomach). Although some say milk anecdotally "lines" the stomach, like every other food it generates more acid to process, potentially making it worse. Doubly so if you have mild dairy intolerance! |

Actually my GP has said this to me too. I've found myself taking big old swigs of water when the familiar pain in the solar plexus hits at work and I have no antacids to hand |

"I've had Acid reflux for over 20 years . Just ring your GP and ask to try Omeprazole, best prescription meds out there
Omeprazole is the one for acid reflux *amen*"
Stick with a day or two of antacids. Acid reflux is not much of a diagnosis. If you start taking proton pump inhibitors (ok ok. PPI if you must) regularly, especially OTC then you should be checked for additional problems, possibly by endoscopy to identify mechanical or other nasties. 20 years is a lot longer than recommended (unless periodic use used to manage flare-up?). Fundamentally PPI interfere with your digestive system and can cause downstream issues and will mask the symptom of more systemic problems. Most common is hiatus hernia. Blame working on the 6 pack when you were 20 yrs old... |

"Used ranitidine for years and now can't get it.
Only thing that stopped my heartburn.
Have trying nexium but its not brilliant "
I've been using ranitidine under the trade name Rantac for some time now. Another one that's worked for me is pantoprazole |

"to much rich food any home remedies till the shop opens blob of toothpaste, the mint soothes the heartburn. I swear by it and had heartburn early hours this morning!! "
Be careful how much over a day you do this. A person died after eating a whole tube of toothpaste.i gesting the Fluride in an entire tube is toxic. |

Although YMMV if it was that bad then you may want to see a doc. Assuming its not heart related(!) Look at what you had eaten. We all eat too much at Christmas, but there is a lot of difference between indigestion through mass and what you describe. A rolling hiatus hernia (type 2) episode is often described/mistaken for a heart attack. Lots of causes and triggers for it, and when not acute you may be oblivious. One symptom you may notice is a difference when you swallow - like something mildly caught in throat. Best of luck! i didn't eat that much to be honest I drank more than I ate, which I couldn't understand, I keep a eye on it and if it persists I see a doc "
The worst pain I had was gallstones and it is worst than child birth and can last hours and could never exactly pinpoint what triggered the attacks. I was often sick as well, this helped but unpleasant. Gallbladder removed but still get heartburn regularly.
I've had heartburn again tonight after I had an alcoholic drink.
I suffer especially if I've d*unk Alcohol for a few days on the trot.
Worth getting check out to be safe.
Hope you feel better soon xx |

"A teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved into half cup of tepid water. Tastes like Beelzebub's jockstrap but works a treat. "
This works one of my nans remedies, put a bit of sugar in it,makes it more palatable. |
