Hello all..

I just watched a programme on TV which said about 107 cyclists have been killed on our roads each year.. that's one every 3 or so days. Yes I sometimes stir the cycling pot but for all those vulnerable cyclists on the road I wish you a safe 2021. Lorries turning left at T junctions a big hazard... Stay Safe People's ..

Even the Essex Grinch has a soft side...

It’s so sketchy out there, I’m sticking more to trails and mountain biking more in forests and on the moors these days, it’s no fun on the roads.

I can manage about 10 miles on my usual circular route and only touch roads at junctions. i could go lots further and not touch them at all. It just takes a bit of planning.

But it Was when I got a moped that I had it worst I was hit from behind as the driver didn't see me coming off a slip road.. Sent me to hospital where I stayed for 12 days with 3 fractured vertebras he pleaded guilty and I won £25,000 pay out

Don't want to step on any toes or this to be taken the wrong way, it is of course a disgusting figure.

I myself cycle to and from work and I'm a Biker as well so I know the dangers only too well.

But, I see so many jumping red lights and riding dangerously and without due care and attention- maybe more could be done on the educational side if things?

As a cyclist and a driver there is fault on both sides. Do bikes jump lights...yes. Do drivers speed...yes. So many more examples you can give.

I would like to see a bike safety test as a standard but not sure how you’d ever enforce it. Would also like to see part of the driving test to be you stand on a pavement and a car/bus/truck passes you at the national speed limit so you can sense how frightening it can be for a cyclist or a pedestrian.

As a cyclist I also have insurance, this should be standard. Is £28/year for public liability in case I cause a crash.

I’m European countries it’s encouraged as it keeps fitness up and travel down. I used to work for a company that if you cycled they did your dry cleaning for your work suits and they were delivered to your place of work.

There’s a lot more that needs to be done on both sides, but if anyone, even in jest, jokes about hitting cyclists, please let me drive an articulated truck at 57mph 1 or 2 feet close to you

I am a cyclist, I commute around 100 miles a week on a semi rural route. On a daily basis I will experience people passing me and immediately turning across in front of me, people passing too close, people opening their car doors into the cycle paths etc... on top of that, there is the abuse and honked horns from people who have had to wait 30 seconds to pass me. I've been physically threatened, deliberately run off the road, been spat at, bottles and rubbish thrown at me, even physically pushed into the path of an oncoming vehicle. All because I dare to cycle on the public roads.

I think that a distinction to be made between a cyclists and people who ride a bike. The kids doing wheelies down the road (or path) and deliberately riding in front of cars at junctions, they're a completely different thing to the people who are just trying to get somewhere on their bike, or those who are riding long and fast for fitness or pleasure.

I totally agree as the comparison can be drawn against the 87 year old opposite me who drives to the local shop and someone who drives for a living.

Equal fault on both sides but remember every chance list is one less car holding you up in a traffic jam
