why are people so keen to knock everything we do in this country???
just about every thing else has been completed ahead of schedule and just because 1 company have fallen short on its commitment, everything is a shambles!!!
get real, these games will be fine, every games in history had teething problems, lets give the games a chance to shine instead of focusing on the odd negative. |

i think to say its a shambles before its even started is a bit short sighted..
like looking at a bowl of cake mix and going yuk, thats not very appetising..
there are many things i dislike about the 'olympic family' and the way the process has run but lets wait and see.. |

GS4 were asked to supply an extra 10 000 staff only 3 months ago, it's just not possible to inter_iew, do a security check and train that many in such a short time. Having less than a quarter of staff pitch up to work is also not exactly their fault. As far as I know, only one hotel has been affected so far. Then again, this is GS4 we are talking about, they have lots of prisoners escaping from the prisons they run, so it should be no big surprise I guess. |

As BoJo said, it gave them a chance to really look around London.
The lanes are quite obvious though. I think if the driver had been told to find Westfield shopping centre in Stratford s/he may have found the way. |

"Taxis are forbidden to use Olympic lanes, this includes picking up and setting down passengers at the kerbside
A demo is arranged for 2pm 17 July at parliament square"
wouldnt see how that would be a big problem for them, bloody moaners lol.
they just carry on until they can set down then charge the extra.
cynical?
moi? lol |

it was their 'guesstimate' in the first place that they would only need 2-3000 staff anyway, so hardly not their fault. |

I agree...it is almost like people hoping it fails.
The security issue though I thought I read/ heard over the weekend that G4 were asked for 2500 security men but that was upped to 10000 a couple of months ago, now ok they shouldn't have agreed to deliver, but that is a big ask in a couple of months. |

A whole area like wapping will be cut off, there are no right turns between tower bridge and the isle of dogs.
Many frail and disabled passengers rely on the taxicard and dial a ride schemes to get around. Otherwise they will be housebound |

unless the contract was offered in VERY suspicious circumstances, i cant see G4S being paid £250mill for 2500 security staff for a month. |

No, they've agreed to give some back to pay for the troops. No one has yet started talking about sanctions and claw-back. |

well there we go again the good Old British Press Stirring things up again, just like the Euros don't go was the cry there will be nothing but trouble from every Tom,Dick and Harry, and it went down a storm hardly an incident, so now its the turn of the Olympic Games to get the shit. ok G4s have let us down, but did we expect anything else from a security firm that can loose prisoners take it was then called Group 4 but whats a name change these day, like every big occasion there is always teething problems no matter where they are taken place |

The other problem that has added to the problems, is the vetting process. Whilst G4S could do their own vetting, because all new personnel were being trained to SIA regulations, then they'd require SIA clearance!
That process can take up to 3 months to clear for every person. The SIA is notoriously slow at that stage, and that is with UK born British nationals. Those from foreign countries take far longer to process.
So for them to suddenly have the potential of 10,000 extra people to vet made for a hopeless situation. |

Beijing had enormous problems prior to the games.
massive smog, so they had to shut down half of the citys industry during the games
major transport issues
incomplete venues
incomplete athletes accommodation.
yet everyone says it was the best games ever!!!!!
all because they had an awesome firework display....
lets focus on the positives for once..... |

We never got to hear about the things that went wrong in other countries who have staged the Olympics, so it shouldn't come as a big surprise that the UK has had it's fair share of problems too. When big money is involved there also greed is big and G4S bit off more than can chew, promised the best security available and have been found wanting. Quite how they can justify returning just £50m of our money when they've delivered less than 50% of the service they promised is beyond me, so let's hope the govt people can sort it out and get back a lot more than £50m. |
