What I've noticed at the start of this week is that there are too many people out there that have been very nasty and very cruel to the homeless there's this guy outside my work every single day so I try and buy him a coffee it might not be much but it's something to keep him warm

While style agree with the sentiment, kindness is not just for Christmas.

You’re thinking about a dog.

I usually buy the homeless a meal deal with a hot drink rather than giving money.

I did once, to a couple sleeping in a door way in Liverpool. The couple were very grateful and cried with appreciation

Up on them there hills

In my best Yoda voice, “do, or do not; there is no try”.

An old coach once said to me, “try to jump the gap between two high rise buildings, you do it or you don’t. The word “try” only gives you permission to fail.

It's something I work on all the time.

Kind, but including kind to myself. Kind where possible and firm when necessary.

little house on the praire

I had a homeless " friend" I say friend as i invested a lot of time in him. I used to spend ages talking to him and when he lost his dog i was very supportive. I would buy him clothes and food but rarely gave him money.

This went on for 18 months and he would always hug me anyway blessings of blessings he was offered a coucil flat and now has his own place and new dog.

kind isn't always what people think it is. I think firmness where necessary is kind

I think at the end of the day if everyone out there didn't judge the place would be a happier place unfortunately there are too many people out there that judge people without knowing their background story

"Thank you for the weekly reminder to be kind."

Some people need reminding. Kindness is not only for the homeless. It's also not being sarcastic to those who are being kind.

Not suggesting that you are, but some people can be.

Be kind in general. Sometimes, people are kind to the whole world and forget those nearest to home.

I’m always kind to the homeless.

I don’t care what their circumstances are, if I seen someone sitting outside in winter, their fingers cold, lips blue and teeth chattering I’ll be buying them hot chocolate and asking them what I can do to help.

One thing I don’t do is give money, I’ll admit that, but I’ll happily buy them something hot to eat/drink and offer them any help finding support numbers etc.

A kind word and an act of kindness can make a huge difference to someone down and out. X

What if they don't care much for hot chocolate?

If I'm going to give anything I give money. My mum and I were giving some money to a guy begging once (don't know if he was homeless or not) and a man actually told us off for doing it. His idea of kindness was to assume that all beggars wanted money for drink or drugs or were actually very wealthy people who were work shy so he took it apon himself to impose his views on us.

How many is too many ?

What were they doing that was nasty ?

What were they doing that was cruel ?

You noticed this in the early part of the week;had it improved by Wednesday ?

Does an improvement mean MORE or LESS cruelty ?

Are these people also mean to renters and homeowners ?

How are they with people in wheelchairs ?

It's good that you buy a homeless person a coffee. Well done.

What do you mean you 'try' to buy him a coffee ?

How hard can it be ? If he's there every day take him a hot sarnie and some soup on your way into work.

So true, there but for the grace of god go I. I'm sure there are many warming stories too, but for one that illustrates the power one act of kindness can have on a persons life. Take a look on tinternet for Ray Wilkins and the homeless ex soldier who managed to turn his life around. What's the worse that can happen to you for showing some empathy and kindness?

Well there was that couple who were murdered by a homeless man they took into their home...

Apart from that one in a million occurrence I agree that empathy and kindness are good things.

And there's the dilemma. It's why if I'm giving, I give money. I think allowing anybody the dignity of choice is a great kindness in itself.

We've been in a position where we needed to rely on others generosity and the phrase "as cold as charity" is apt

I'd always give money. Unless they asked me to get them something.

There’s not always a Starbucks, Costa or Caffè Nero close at hand.
