Having recently had surgery to remove the bowel cancer I had, I now have a stoma (bag on my belly). It's not permeant but I'm struggling with it. Has anyone got/had one and how did you deal with it?
Thanks |

"A few people on TikTok talk about their stomas . They seem to be happy to show and tell . Very informative . Go have a look . Must be a shock for you, hope they caught the cancer in time x "
Yes there is a stoma guy who has quite a big following.
Good luck OP x |

Thanks I'll check it out. I know it's a confidence thing. Trusting the stoma to stay there when I'm out or even when I get to have sex. But right now I haven't got it. Which is causing me to get nervous when I go out. I'm pushing through it, but it's hard.
Yer caught it early so I've been told no need for chemotherapy after this now. Just check ups |

I'm glad they caught the cancer. A stoma takes a lot of adjustment, but over time you'll get used to living with it, and your confidence will grow. There are some great social media resources now as already mentioned.
The websites salts.co.uk and iossg.org.uk have lists of regional and national support groups you can contact - to chatting with people in your area having similar daily experiences can be helpful for picking up practical tips as well as support.
If you run into any difficulties or have any questions, use your stoma nurse. They're a mine of useful information and will be happy to help. They've seen and heard it all before, so don't be embarrassed. |

There’s also a company called Vanilla Blush. They will sort underwear and a hernia belt via the nhs for you. The underwear really helps especially with confidence |

Cheers everyone. It's honestly cheered me up seeing there are more people on here that have one. It's strange how not feeling alone can make it feel easier |

As daft as it sounds I think actually having sex to get my self over it will eventually help. I went to the shops for the first time today and the nerves had be sweating like mad. I was on the verge of panicking cos I was that worried about something going wrong with it. But I did it and I'll do it again tomorrow.
Hopefully being naked infront of a lass will help me get over the confidence issue then I can move on from that.
Just need my body to agree with my mind that I'm ready for that though lol.

Firstly, congrats on kicking cancer's ass!
As for the stoma, it certainly wouldn't put us off meeting someone we liked!
As others have mentioned, there are some awesome people on tiktok raising awareness.
All the best for the future and getting your confidence back.
