Good morning to all my nerds. Hope you are all doing well. I thought I would create another hangout spot.
Just an update in my nerd world, I have finally completed Avengers on PS4 and moving onto a nice anime game. Meanwhile at the model desk progress is slow, but nearly finished my third kit of the year.
I was also thinking of creating a kik group for us all to hang out as I would love to meet some female nerds in the future. |

"Was avengers as good as I would hope? Wanted it for a while.
J
I would stay away from it for a while because it is still broken and doesn't play properly."
Boooo !!!
Well I'll have to spend the time I save making some new sculptures of ...well, anything nerdy that takes my fancy frankly. Gonna do a half xenomorph head wall plaque next methinks. And finish my series of comic book buhhdas.

"I use to enjoy Warhammer, but I am far more into the painting than the gaming side of it. Currently got a couple of Ork Vehicles on the desk at the moment."
I have just got back into 28mm miniature painting. Any good tips for an old man getting back into it? |

YouTube tutorials are good, and one of the best tips I’ve had is to not be too critical of your work compared to others... and judge your own from a couple of feet away not a couple of inches!
What are you painting? |

No spoilers here, but flipping awesome"
I'm only a couple of episodes in and a bit disappointed. Does it get better? |

I call that the two foot rule and tell folks that you don't play any tabletop game with your face pressed up against the minis so try not to worry about tiny mistakes or whatever, it's all learning anyway just enjoy it. |

"It can be anything that your passionate about. For me it is model making, gaming and reading (graphic novels) "
I'd suggest that to be considered "nerdy", one's passion must have an element of being somehow unfashionable or socially undesirable.
Single man, passionate about his hobby, spends hundreds or thousands of pounds a year on it... but it's football or cars? Not a nerd. He's just a manly man, who's very into his manly man things.
Single man, passionate about his hobby, spends hundreds or thousands of pounds a year on it... but it's toy soliders or computers or whatever? Definitely a nerd. People will probably assume they smell funny and have no social skills too.
Source: Lifelong nerd, repeatedly bullied, victimised and even assaulted for various hobbies. Sure, things are loads better now that some previously nerdy things (superheroes; fantasy without too much magic) have now crossed over into mainstream culture, but fucking hell, in the eighties and nineties...

I score 1.5 out of 3, does that qualify me?
Model making - yes
Gaming - no
Reading - yes, but history, travel, not novels or comics
Would photography count? Is that nerdy? I guess if it depends what I'm taking pictures of |

As I get easily confused I've had to google the difference between nerd and geek ... so I'm definitely a work nerd but not a nerd in life
And I'm not a geek ... aren't most in here just geeks? |

The geek/nerd thing is now mainstream culture, I'm hoping it stays like that. The cynic in me thinks that fashions will change and the sneering will start again.
But yeah I'm a proud member of each clan. I've read comics and played d&d for over 30 years. I code for a living and am borderline obsessed with music. Ladies you'll be surprised to hear that I'm single ') |

The terms get mixed by each person I personally prefer geek but some would say I'm a nerd |

We've always thought that Nerd is more the American term with Geek being British. |
