Damn it. It looked so easy. After watching atleast 30 YouTube videos I was sooooooo confident. Three days later after temper tantrums, screaming and throwing things, I’m ready to give up.

Knitting.

Fucking nightmare.

Never again.

All I wanted was to knit a fluffy scarf for my daughter for Christmas

Learning a new skill when you have nobody to to answer your queries can be really difficult. Books and videos can get you so far but they can't answer your questions.

That's why when somebody learns a musical instrument I always advise getting a tutor. I have had to correct some horrific things with people who have learned the piano from an app. Luke

Oh gosh, I haven't knitted for many, many years. My nan taught me when I was a kid...she was one of those nans that would sit knitting while watching TV. I could never get the hang of casting on, but was usually fine once I got into the main knitting part.

Were the tutorials not very helpful, or is it more a problem with translating it into actions? Don’t be too frustrated with yourself, it’s not easy to learn on your own when you have to deal with casting on and all the rest of it. And fluffy yarns aren’t that easy to learn with either. When I teach someone, I cast on and knit a few rows for them so they’ve got somewhere to start - it’s a lot more to learn when you have to start yourself off as well.

Do you have a smooth yarn to try with, just to get the hang of it? If you do, I’ll find a tutorial for the easiest cast-on I know and send you a link. I’d definitely recommend practicing with something smooth so you can see what you’re doing. Is there a pattern you’re following for the scarf?

Do you remember a few months back when I was trying to get the curtain rail to attach to the fucking wall in the living room? The wood was bent and it wasn't having a bar of it, I ended up losing my shit and putting the hammer into the wall about 15 times.

From there I learnt how to fix holes in walls made by a shit losing hammer weilder.

Once I'd fixed the wall and wallpapered etc, getting that last screw to not be wonky took all my pressure and weight on it. That's when I lost my footing off the back of the sofa, went horizontal in the air and splatted flat on the floor almost stabbing myself in the face with the screwdriver.

Don't look at the "failure" but appreciate the effort. You're probably learning without realising, even if it's learning what not to do x

"Haha, I'm sorry I feel your pain. I hate it when I can't get the knack of things, I eventually call a professional but you can't really do that.

I need one of those 80 year old little women who multitask

I must be a little 80 year old woman

You here to give me hope Hope?

I like to spread Hope "

Come here and do it for me then. I’ll keep you fed and lubricated. You’re cheap anyway

I thought it was one of those skills that just showed itself as soon as you hit 45 to be honest. Like a crappy old person mutation.

We all know the best way for latent powers to come to the surface is to put the person under extreme circumstances and get that adrenaline pumping. Doing you a favour here OAP.

"Damn it. It looked so easy. After watching atleast 30 YouTube videos I was sooooooo confident. Three days later after temper tantrums, screaming and throwing things, I’m ready to give up.

Knitting.

Fucking nightmare.

Never again.

All I wanted was to knit a fluffy scarf for my daughter for Christmas "

Please show what you’ve knitted so far

Were the tutorials not very helpful, or is it more a problem with translating it into actions? Don’t be too frustrated with yourself, it’s not easy to learn on your own when you have to deal with casting on and all the rest of it. And fluffy yarns aren’t that easy to learn with either. When I teach someone, I cast on and knit a few rows for them so they’ve got somewhere to start - it’s a lot more to learn when you have to start yourself off as well.

I need you in my life

Do you have a smooth yarn to try with, just to get the hang of it? If you do, I’ll find a tutorial for the easiest cast-on I know and send you a link. I’d definitely recommend practicing with something smooth so you can see what you’re doing. Is there a pattern you’re following for the scarf?

I’m going to pm you

Can’t pm you but a recommended vid would be wonderful. Nope, no pattern just two bloody sticks and some furry wool"

Just sent you a message, I’ll have a look for a link now.
