The woman who owns the house he most recently "vandalized" has just decided to pull out of her 300 grand house sale...she's obviously not too upset

I think the whole mystery about who he is and his thing of having art mysteriously appear overnight is just gimmick. If you forget about that and just treat him as any other artist I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Luke |

Depends which way you look at it. If he decided to rock up and spray something on my house I would be chuffed to be bits.
If it was some Banksy inspired wannabe spraying the word some badly spelled swear words on my house not so much.
I think their is a distinct difference between art and normal vandalism. |

I agree, modern art is just PR and critic BS.
This is superbly shown for all it's shallowness and pomposity in Tony Hancock's movie The Rebel |

Depends what resonates with you personally - if Banksy painted something in my house that I thought was a bit shit, then I wouldn’t be happy. If an unknown painted something beautiful, then I’d love it. It depends |

In the unlikely event that Banksy daubed our house I'd be very happy. I'd be furious if it was anyone else.
I'm very well aware that it's the monetary value of a "Banksy" that's behind my thinking. |

In the eyes of the law a vandal, hence why no one knows who he is.
In my eyes a genius, personally I like his work, I have seen many pieces over the years, they put a smile on my face. Which is what good art is meant to do... it’s meant to make you fee, move you in some way, trigger something inside, arouse the curiosity.
One of my favourite prices was a wheel clamp of a chariot statue in London, forget the exact location but spotted it as I was driving through
He raises issues in a subtle way
I loved the picture that self shredded at auction, why should people make money off his work |

"Street Art
We should encourage it and have designated areas for it
I find it fascinating
I find it incredibly ugly"
There are designated areas for it in some cities
Arists get to exhibit their work for a given period and after that period, the wall is given a base coat and another artist can exhibit in that space
It cuts down on random daubings and those that do appreciate it have an ever changing gallery to view |

I agree
Art is subjective...
If you don't like it, doesn't mean it's shit.
The fact he has millions of fans and supporters shows you that!
Might bit be some elaborate oil painting but it's still art and deserves to be seen and appreciated by those who enjoy it.

That takes away ownership and statement.
A simpler way of saying designated area is ........ controlled.
Controlled leads to dictat of what can and cannot be seen.....

I can't see why it would incease the price of her property 10 fold but people would pay it.
And much as I enjoy his topical artistry its still unlawful graffiti and vandalism albeit from a recognised and talented artist.
I have to admit I do enjoy his style. Almost like a special forces artist. Sneak in, do the job, leave your mark and get out. And no one knows who you are! |

I'm inclined to think so too. It would take far too long otherwise.
Still, he has to design and produce that stencil and come up with the idea in the first place.

Personally I don’t get all the hype about Banksy. I don’t think his stuff is that good and he claims to be a rebel and antiestablishment. In reality though it’s all PR and the dude is making a fortune and no doubt living the life his ‘art’ suggests he despises.
If he vandalised my property I’d want to remove it but in reality I would sell it for sure |

Love his work, it can be fun and topical. I do go to art galleries and admire the great works, but also love the fact his is available on the street to be seen by anyone.
I get why others disagree and maybe I see graffiti in a different way, some of it is very clever and artistic and other ...not so. However for me I am always happy to see his work pop up on my news feed |

I bloody love street art. I'm fortunate that my current home town has heaps of street art by some great artists: Mr Penfold, Ben Eine, Dotmasters, Fanakapan and loads of others.
Not all of it is to my taste (there isn't a gallery on the planet where every piece inside is to my taste), but it's accessible to people who wouldn't dream of setting foot in a gallery and most of it has something interesting to say about the local area.
Who is to say that vandalism can't be art? |

I love street art.
There's a huge difference between someone mindlessly tagging their name on random stuff and someone creating an actual piece of street art.
Have a look at the Secretary Bird in Liverpool. I pass that every day and every day it makes me smile.
Wonderful.

What Banksey has done is to open peoples minds to street art and not just to see it as vandalism...although I would rather see a beautiful work of art that let's you see the passion involved rather that just a tag on some thing..(a tag been just initials)

How do you cheat with art?
Is 'art' just about the skills of the artist, or about the concept and the feelings or thoughts that it provokes in the observer?"
Cheating at graffiti, should be done furtively under a railway arch, just you and your can of paint, distant sound of cop cars. His stuff is more installation art though I guess. Just installed up walls |

"His "vandalism" is sort of the equivalent of someone putting your windows through will gold bars. It's rather hard to complain much when it earns you a fuckton of cash." booooom |

"I think the whole mystery about who he is and his thing of having art mysteriously appear overnight is just gimmick. If you forget about that and just treat him as any other artist I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Luke "
I agree. Used to be really into it, then realised all the people before him thats he’s ripped. Take the mystery away (which I do believe is all a gimmick as well) then it’s pretty boring. |

I'd prefer him to paint where the public wouldn't see it, so my walls didn't get obliterated with someone trying to steal it.
I admire him and his work to highlight the issues that he does. He deserves to have profited from it, rather than scavengers |
