Kind of. My mother was Japanese, and family history is very important and usually well documented. There are still some gaps in mine due to various political changes in Japan over the centuries, but mine on my mother's side goes back to late 9th century.

My folks did the Ancestry DNA tests and through the website managed to get a number of branches of the family back to the 1700’s amd one branch back to the 1600’s.

I don’t actively do family history but i do have an ancestry account. Haven’t gone back further than my grandparents yet coz it’s a nightmare to find accurate records. Did get a copy of my grandparents wedding certificate which was nice to have.

Good luck.

My dad started before he passed away and he gave me his notes. I'm a history geek anyway so I've enjoyed doing it.

It’s worth paying the subscription to have access to their database; it made finding records so much quicker and easier. They did most of the tree in a week amd are now chasing living distant relatives.

The ethnicity results are interesting; I’m pure Celt, but you can dig deeper and find out where you blood line originated from; I have markers from Northern Iran.

On a mooch

Yes I’ve been doing it about 20 years now, mixture of visiting county record offices and ancestry, most branches back to 1600s.... I revisit it every now and then as new documents are released or fresh eyes on dead ends.

I'm doing my family history in ancestory website. I can trace my family back to late 1600's, and trace the places where they live. Africa, Jamaica, Ireland and Scotland.

On ancestry and my heritage. Amazing how fairly simple it is to trace family trees now. Had a couple of surprises in doing it.

Takes a couple of weeks from when they receive the sample. But when it comes back it will give you a list of people who you are related to; they may have family trees already done.
