Christmas is shaping up to be different this year for obvious reasons - all the changes and restrictions mean that a lot of traditions that were once highlights of the festive season aren't going to be going ahead.
For me personally I'm really going to be missing going to the pantomime this year - I love the overblown campness, the daft chorus numbers and the random appearances of z list celebrities. It feels like a little community in the theatre, every one is in a cheerful mood and you can laugh and forget about the outside world.
What are you going to miss this festive season if anything? Or what are you glad about missing and not having to experience? |

I’ll miss going to the theatre, always an annual Christmas treat to see a show; ice skating; out enjoying the lights; strolling around the Christmas market; a day with each of my folks the week before; catching up with different group of friends.
I’m not looking forward to wrapping more Christmas/birthday presents than usual, as people have had deliveries come direct here so wrapping to be done |

I said to my girls today if we knew then what we know now we would of partied on and on
I miss the hugs, the contact I just miss how it used to be.

I miss my holiday in Manchester, the MLS and going to the Christmas Market and of course, seeing friends. I’m looking forward to our first get together after the pandemic.
What are your Christmas plans Meli?

And I miss not seeing the parents of my children at work, we always put Christmas lunch on for them and it would be a chance for the parents to catch up and take a break for a few minutes. I check in by phone but it's not the same |

The male voice choir in our village square, around the christmas tree, outside the pub ... 100s of people and families go on Christmas Day ... whatever the weather! |

I'll greatly miss my children as I won't be able to travel to be with them
I do take some comfort in knowing they're well and will be getting what they asked for this year |

I will miss being with my family, we can't all be together as it is too many households.
Also going to miss a work night out but not the embarrassing photos after! |

People, check your local theatres! I was skyping with my niece who lives in Hampshire and she's very excited to be going to see a pantomime in Southampton - all confirmed and still going ahead. I googled and there are lots still on in the UK. |

Some of these replies have really moved me, I hope you're able to do the activities next year.
This year for Christmas we're going to have a quiet one. Normally I host for the other half's family and their respective partners but this year we're going to go for an early walk, have a lovely Christmas dinner, listen to the music we love (oh hey Zooey Deschanel crooning out a carol whilst I sip mulled wine) and fall asleep watching Gremlins. I can't wait!
I'm looking forward to seeing you again. |

Christmas markets. I'd booked a weekend in London to go to Winter Wonderland. We also go to Manchester Christmas market every year.
All my Christmases from now on will never be the same again. |

I’m lucky, I’m not going to miss anything this Christmas. My daughter and her boyfriend will be over for presents and food and tbh, I don’t need anyone else for those few days
Meli, what have you wished for this Chrimbo? |

There and to the left a bit |
There's a few things I'll miss, and a few firsts are going to happen, not all of them directly COVID related but they have conspired to me feeling very meh about Xmas as a whole this year.
Those, personal, reasons aside and more in the mainstream I'll definitely be missing a trip to the Panto - have gone to the local one for many years - always get front row and often get picked to be the Dame's boyfriend and seeing the sheer delight on the face of my daughter when I am picked will be a big part of what I'm missing, but the panto as a whole, the spectacle, the risque jokes, the hissing and booing and the sheer British-ness of it is a joy to behold and I shall miss it. |

Aside from my family and friends, I'm missing singing the most. December's calendar is usually full of rehearsals, choir concerts, Carol singing, recitals ... but we're not allowed. Such a pity. Ill carry on singing in the car and the kitchen, but it's just not the same. |

Christmas will look like a typical Christmas day with us. But we'll miss new year's Day, which is when all my family go for a massive walk and then come back to mine for chilli and play board games. This is what I enjoy more than actual Christmas itself |

Same here my lovely - but I’ll also miss going to a really good Christmas carol service.
My kids are almost grown now - so for the last few years I’ve really missed their infant and primary school productions and nativities. Christmas definitely isn’t the same without them! |

Im fairly sure I saw our local pantomine was still going ahead, wasn't sure if I had imagined it or not. My kids are a bit older now so we wouldn't have probably gone anyway, or a visit to see Santa
Dinner is always a pretty quiet affair here, mainly due to the presence of a Christmas grinch but I will miss the more lively family gathering round a sisters house in the evening where its all eating and chattering the night away. |

I will actually miss the build up to finishing work. I like to finish work, run around the shops like a twat on Xmas eve, trawling through the Xmas Market etc.
This year I've worked from home since we knew covid was coming so for me it was February. All my shopping is done online, by all I mean my my sister, nephew and mum, and occasional when I do pop to the office now maybe once a week the rest of the time if I go into town I have my work phone on me and logged into Teams. Amazing anti climax this year. |
