There and to the left a bit

These days, no-one particularly although the achievements of some in the face of adversity or huge sacrifice will always get my admiration.

My idol growing up though was Pat Jennings - and still have a pic of me at WHL with those huge hands on my 11 year old shoulders - broke my heart when he moved up the road for a pittance and was only years later that I realised it was the club not him that had forced the move.

My sporting idol is without doubt John Surtees. Although i was very young during his time as a Motorbike racer and a Formula One driver, i have watched hundreds of his races. Not only was he a legend in both formats, he did things that no modern racer would do. For instance, he walked away from both MV Augusta and Ferrari on matters of principle. Walking away from Ferrari actually cost him his second F1 world championship. I can't see any modern day drivers or riders doing that. I look up to him as a man of superb talent and principles that he was prepared to stand up for.

I've played low standard football all my life but the guys that inspired me generally were Seb Coe Steve Overt, Daley Thompson and Alan Wells.

And Kevin Keegan on Superstars ??
