Reported in the Guardian, Reuters and many more so seems to be some basis behind it. But hope people don't make the jump to the ridiculous thought that the masts cause virus' and the like |

Nope. An example is a local radio station I'm involved with has a broadcast area set by Ofcom. The broadcast antenna is on the outer edge of this area so is directional towards the broadcast area. The antenna is shielded as not to broadcast its signal away from the area.
The mast is over 2 miles from the studio. To get the signal from the studio to the mast, we use a hi-gain directional microwave link which sends a narrow beam from the studio to a receiver on the mast, which then gets converted to FM and transmitted to the broadcast area. |

Nope, but other people sometimes do and, having read Ryan Holliday's book "Trust Me, I'm Lying" I now know how easy it is to get fake stories published, unquestioned, by the BBC itself! News gathering agencies, particularly since the advent of the horror show that is 24 hour news, are only too happy to have plenty of content and they don't employ enough people to properly check it's veracity.

As all radio frequencies, including microwaves, are of a longer wavelength than even the infra-red output from the sun, they might cause infinitesimal tissue warming at the sort of distance we are talking about. Even with directional arrays, beyond a fairly intense near field in the order of tens of metres the intensity diminishes following inverse square law as with ligh (if you look at a light bulb close up it will hurt your eyes, move not very far and you will hardly notice it).
There is a lot of mischief making potential in this subject. Just remember how no danger from cellphone frequencies was ever a possibility until competition entered the market. When two new companies stared up on very slightly higher frequencies (ie shorter wavelengths) all of a sudden they became a perceived threat. Ask yourselves who could have benefited from the scare. Same goes for the 5G scaremongering.
Remember, infra-red and radio waves are at the opposite end of the light spectrum from UV and gamma rays etc which do cause tissue damage. In addition to wearing tinfoil hats, the gullible should also stay in the dark. |

what do 'we all know'? Most people are sadly lacking in scientific knowledge about RF characteristics and properties and are easily swayed by mischief makers with goodness knows what hidden agendas.
i have absolutely no fear of energy at those wavelengths. All they will do is cause warming, most likely not noticeable outside the chamber of a microwave oven. I am, however, taking serious risks with my health by soaking up sunshine for hours on end with my naked body, spending all summer at a nudist camp. It is wavelengths on the shorter side of visible light that people need to be wary of. |
