Changing real life name

So I've run away and landed in Bath to start a new life. The administration of changing address has been painful, but I'm also thinking of changing my real name. Anyone had experience of this?

I happen to note my half sister, who I don't speak to has also changed her name

My stepson changed his name by deedpoll when I married his mum but I wasn't allowed to adopt him

Quick and easy with a simple visit to the solicitors. I've always felt a little bit joyfull inside that after we divorced he kept his 'new' surname and is still my son at heart and not just by name.

I think you should do a poll on here for what you are going to change your name to. You're probably going to say you want to choose on your own but that's really unadventurous of you.

I would never change my first names but I still carry my married name for convenience.

I really don't want it and intend to change it soon.

I've had loads of ideas. I don't want to go back to my maiden name but I might.

It's really easy, just go to a solicitor. I changed mine and I was surprised how easy it was.

I have been tempted before, as most of my friends call me Ivy, it is less common for people to use my real name.

However, when I raised the subject with my mother, she have me the death stare that puts chills up your spine so decided against

If you're going to choose your own name, why not pick something fabulous? You could be "Jolly Goodhead" or "Plenty O'Toole"

I think the actual changing it is relatively straightforward (my surname was changed when I was very young) it's the associated admin after that can be a pain, having to advise and provide proof to anyone you have dealings with that you have changed - fortunately because I was so young when it happened my new name was "established" before I got to things like bank accounts, driving licences, passports etc - but I've been occasionally asked to show proof of the change when I was older.

aw ty, fully understand. struggling at the moment because I'm technically homeless and living in a hostel. I have a PO box, but for insurance and banks, they can't get their heads around it, but surprising HMRC does.

As I'll be living on a boat, life is not going to be easy

I've seriously considered this myself as I failed to make marriage material and get rid of my surname that way. I did try honest!

I've heard the aftermath on changing everything can be a real pain in the derriere.

And was also told it can make travel difficult with your kids if you have any.
