downsides to looking young, tales from way over there

before you start, yes there are many downsides to looking young, so be careful what you wish for. I'm 29 but look 18-19, which everyone instantly thinks you lucky bastard, not so. Do you remember when you were a teenager and you always wanted to be older? why is this? because we all want to be treated as a person not a child, and buy alcohol of course. I find it hard to meet any females my age and older stating I'm too young. I get teenage girls asking me out, not as good as it sounds, why? I hear you scream, because young people don't know anything and their irritating. A good example of this crock of shit happened down the pub the other night. I was with friends and I saw this lady with friends a couple of tables away looking pretty nice, I'm not shy so over I went to try the water. She looked at me an nearly spat her drink out, followed by a stupid grin which then turn into 'look at me loud laughter' and patronising lines 'awww int cute' and 'my lads older than you, ha ha ha de ha de bloody ha, cackling away with her mates. So I'm standing there like a twat and I asked how old she was, she replied 31. I said 'I'm 29 love' which shut her up quickly. I then took a scabby ripped £5 note out of my pocket and threw it on her lap and told her to 'go and get some blue hair rinse' pointing out she had afew greys. This wasn't a prudent course of action and she starts wailing at me, but I just butted in with 'it's not nice to be patronised at any age is it, have a nice night, bye'

OP, you took offence at somethig you suspected might happen as it's happened before. Perhaps a change of tack might be in order and instead of wading in expecting them to second guess your true age why not start off with something like, "Hi, I might look young for my age and you might look old for yours, let's meet in the middle somewhere."

She'll either tell you to fuck off or ask you how old you are, and you won't have to be so defensive.

You may BE 29! You may LOOK 19! But you certainly ACT like a spoilt teenager, maybe try and cool it down a notch when you get a knockback, and the gals might decide to treat you like the grown up you want to be!!

I remember being 13 and being served in a pub no problem.

I sort of hit a plateau and am told I look younger than my age.

Does it make a difference to me, hell no, age is a state of mind and an attitude.

I've recently been asked out on an evening with my Goddaughter and her friends all under the age of 30. When I pointed out I was old enough Mum to all of them was told, "But you are young at heart and if you pull and we don't, you ain't coming out with us again"

I never wading in, or played guess my age, im not 10. The age thing only crosses my mind when I want to buy some fags or a pint. My tack is perfectly fine. I dont stroll over to women and try chat up lines. I do like your line though, shame it wasn't you, eh?

So you don't think she was being offensive? I don't take kindly to having my cheek pinched. consider this then. what if the roles were reversed, she came over to my table and I told her 'aww isnt abit late for granny to be out?' laughing at her with my friends, is that not rude? lol I'm not defensive or offensive, until someone attacks, other than that im a laid back pussy cat, honest

I think looking younger when you are still relatively young has more disadvantages than when you are older. I have always looked young for my age, but never truly appreciated it until now. I am 50 but look about 10 years younger and I love it now and appreciate how lucky I am. And love all the compliments I get lol.

cheers fella, I've had plenty of knockbacks and tbh it never bothers me. why am I acting like a teenager? I wasn't nasty coz she turned me down, christ, how egotistical do you think I am? everyone bugger thinks this whole thing is about her turning me down, its about being polite and civil, just that. she could of told me no or fuck off or even ignore me, not a eastenders est scene in the vic. She didn't have to tell the whole pub while swinging off my right cheek, which buised for a week (this is before I got funny) the only reason I got offensive did was because there was no need to be rude, by the way she came back and said sorry.

It was one of those fucked up moments that no one could of seen coming, but I don't regret it. I'm not outspoken, I don't think I'm special, most people would say I am too polite, although not that night. think father ted or as mentioned above napoleon dynamite. I have spoken to the lady in question and she said my comeback was and I quote 'awesome' there are no hard feelings. She also said she wouldn't mind going for a drink, which I was going to get to but everyone had already condemned me to the gallows. I still cant grasp it, how can something bad can turn out rosey. until next time commrades. peace

OP reading your posts in this thread, seriously not once have I thought that it is the fact that you look younger that may be causing you a problem meeting people...

Oh and as someone that easily passes for 10 years younger than he actually is, I'll tell you something it's fantastic and has never caused me any problems in life.

Even if 'someone attacks' , you would show more class and manners in both cases by smiling politely and excusing yourself, not throwing money and insulting her age, or hypothetically laughing at her.

I understand that you were humiliated, and are trying to understand her behaviour, but honestly, you're not coming across as very mature here, whatever you think you are.

Sometimes you wonder why people draw attention to themselves, highlighting their negative attributes. But hey ho!

I'm 34 and recently got id'd buying wine. I thought it was ace lol. It would have been.better if she wasn't as old as my mum and half blind with it though!

On the chatting people up side, I'm too crap at it to have spotted any difference, sorry can't empathise with you at all, however a different tack may prove beneficial. Use it to your advantage and joke about it.

I'd have taken my hand across the side of your face if you'd done that to me.

Are you sure you're really 29 because by the sound of things you act like you are 12

yes I have thought that, I'd hate it to be the reason. I cant get laid because I look too clean, god that's really bad now you put it like that. How do you deal with that? maybe I could start my own hair dye product called 'just for boys' you can add some grey hairs rather than get rid of them. I been told afew times on fab, that I don't belong on this site, because I look too fresh, too nice, even too cute (I hate cute anything but cute) It's nice in an odd way but personally I find it abit cheeky, swinger site only for people who look a certain way. I wouldn't tell a amputee there too limbless to be on fab. Its for everyone, even losers like me.

I don't mind people telling me how young I look, it happens everyday. Can't say I love though because its always in a situation where its anything but complementary.

back to the tread

As a human being I'm allowed to make mistakes, I'm allowed to get angry and were allowed to forgive and move on. I'm very sorry for sharing this story and upsetting anyone, I must just be getting grumpy with age.

what is your problem? she the one who screamed to a hundred odd people in a pub and bruised my face, before I said a word. At least I wasn't aggressive or loud. what if you walked over to a guy with his friends and he screamed to everyone in earshot then grabbed you by the face? what would you have done? just stand there and let someone physically hurt you? go tell us all what you would of done. jesus wept, alot. yeah love im 12.

so where on your original post does it say she was 'swinging from your cheek'?

And by the way, the 'scabby' fiver could have been usf in a better way! Maybe put towards a bottle of wine for her table to show that there was no hard feelings! That way you could have maybe got to know her without the tantrums!!

little house on the praire

My son has always had problems with his age but generally in a positive way. Hes nearly 22 and has just started filling out so now he looks about 18 instead of 12 lol. He just carries id with him where ever he goes.

He was going home from here oneday and two of the train station guards stopped and asked if his parents knew he was out that late (about 9pm). He just laughs and told them how old he was, think he was about 19 at the time.

sounding very harsh OP...but I fear this is more of a rejection issue than anything....and I think U might understand this is almost what women and cpls get when they reject someone, words like, 'I wouldnt wanna do u anyway'

Honestly i empathize with u, I'm a young 36...but I'd never respond in such a manner...as well as some of ur defensive arguments to what ur actions were.

who knows...had u played it calmly she might have approached u later....

I am 28 this sept but I have been mistaken for someone in their early 20s.

I don't look like a boy and I carry myself like any man should but if someone took an exception to my age I will know how to deal with it.

Throwing a fiver at a woman and saying "get your hairs done" will earn LAD points but you've basically shot yourself in the foot if other women hear it.
