Compliment - a guy at college said I had nice legs after he saw me playing hockey. That was over 20 years ago now and I still think about it now and then
Insult - a girl that I worked with around ten years ago said that I'm too timid and would never amount to anything. Always think about that when I'm working on a new project at my current job. |

Positive - I am someone people come to if they need a shoulder or hug.
Insult - I try to let insults go over me because they're just one person's opinion of me. |

Years ago someone told me I looked like an Inca goddess. . Lord knows what he was on.
I can't recall ever being insulted and taking it seriously. Someone called me a ginger pensioner once, that made me laugh as much as the Inca goddess. |

I constantly get complimented on my legs.
But it would be nice if it was the norm that I could wear the clothes that get those compliments.
I'd just like to be a guy, that wears skirts and hosiery.

It would be great wouldn't it. There was a guy used to walk around in Tunbridge Wells in quite classic, country style skirt and jacket. He had a beard. People would stare and pass comment. I always thought it was a shame he couldn't just go about dressed how he wanted, it's only clothes after all. |

I have a thing for cheongsam's.
I've been out in town in a few and the response from random girls has been 'OMG you look fabulous, I wish I would wear that.', To which I generally reply... 'Why don't you then?'

I had 2 cheongsam made for me in Malaysia. They're beautiful but I no longer have the 23 inch waist I had when they were made ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I can't really think of 1 positive comment that sticks with me more than anything else. The unfaltering belief of a friend that I was capable of doing the half ironman that I had signed up for and trained for, but was about to pull out of.
Negative comment: a d*unk ex-colleague telling me "if it wasn't for your tits you would have nothing going for you"

Positives don't really stick.
But my first boyfriend told me he didn't like the way I looked, wished I was thinner, more like the girls he saw in porn.
That was the start of a 16 year battle with bulimia ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I know its not easy and i try to focus on the kind complements and forget the negative ones .
Some people will always be ignorent of others feelings. Which is a shame , but it reflects on more the person they are than the wonderful people we are ![](/icons/rainbow.png) |

"Someone tried to insult me by calling me "fat jessica rabbit" however I quite liked it, so a compliment and insult in 1 "
Ha I'd love that too.
My best compliment was in school. A teacher got us all to stand up and say something nice about someone and a boy, who I didn't really know except that he'd had a hellish time with bullies, picked me and said I was never mean to anyone. One of my sisters was bullied terribly and it still affects her now, so I will never get involved in it and that comment has always stuck with me and been my reminder to think of the impact of what you say/do on people you don't even know it matters to.
My annoying, lingering bad ones are all 'jokes' of my exes at my expense. I'm trying not to dwell on them anymore though.

As a complement years ago somebody said to me I will find that one person to spend the rest of my life with..
Insult the person who told me that I would find somebody to spend the rest of my life with basically told me the other day I deserve to be single because I'm fat.. ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

Compliment...
When I was single, I'd pulled this lass at the pub. In the pub carpark after closing we snagged on a picnic bench .... but when she pulled my boxers down she just said "oh wow"
Insult, a guy on Facebook one called me a pheasant... which always tickles me. He obviously meant "peasant" (which is still amusing) .

I honestly can't think of a compliment that's stuck with me. I tend to dismiss positive things people say about me, they don't sit comfortably with me. When I was a kid almost all the other kids parents told there kids they didn't want them playing with me. One mum even said it to my face, I found out later in life that her son went to prison for dealing heroin.
I'll just add most kids ignored their parents and some are still my closest friends and their parents think I'm actually a goodun. |

Guy at work talking about me to a colleague: she'd be absolutely stunning...if she were slim.
Mrs Hughes, primary school head teacher telling my parents not to bother with grammar school for me as it wasn't needed for the jobs I'd get.
I'm in my 60s and recalled her dismissal over the years when I've gone "above my station". Saddest moment was when my dad visited me in my home, the first one I'd bought on my own following my divorce. He looked around and said I never expected coloured to live in a house like this. ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

Many years ago when i was mid teens i had to start wearing glasses which upset me. My uncle kindly said to me "they make a pretty girl look a beautiful woman" ... he was such a kind man
Im very fat but i used to hate people mentioning it. I worked in a care home and was taking round the cups of tea and i heard one of the old ladies say "she's a big girl". It really upset me and started me on my life long battle with weight. |

Compliment - meeting someone I'd admired for ages and he said I was incredibly erudite and had a beautiful voice he could listen to for hours. Lots of compliments stick with me to be honest, mainly the unexpected, off the cuff ones.
Insult - I try, on the whole, not to dwell on them. There was one the day after my dad died that upset me for a bit but I now can see it for what it was and not get upset by it. |

Insult and compliment combined in a way! College friend often commented to people that I seemed abrupt and unyielding but was all the better for knowing. |

Compliment... I'm often told I'm easy to be with and you can talk to me about anything and people feel more comfortable with me than they do most people.
Insult... That I'm useless, incapable, irresponsible, good for nothing, half a job, thick and ugly. (who needs parents?) |

They don't deserve the title of parents if they did that. I hope you've managed to heal. The true ugliness is inside those that inflict their failures on children. It's usually a power thing because they are weak. |

I'm rubbish at remembering compliments, insults though stick like glue. The last one that hurt me badly was someone saying I was an attention seeking bullshitter, that's controlling and manipulative. |
